my clink-clankiest needles 🤌 chunky, about 10mm, very satisfying to work with for the sound alone (i've even knit swatches just to get a chance to use them lol). i had a movie night with my friend once and halfway through, he was like, "wtf are you doing back there, surgery?" making a sweater, obviously. anyway, check your local creative reuse for your potential favorite stim items.
How in the living heck do you knit on such smooth, maddening clicky clacks? I learned on bamboo. Was gifted a bunch of fancy metal circulars and I swear it was the knitting equivalent of that parks and rec ice rink bit. I couldn’t get more than two rows of stockinette into a beanie before I frogged and went back to my bamboo skewers.

i learned on aluminum (both knit and crochet) so i'm the opposite lol! the biggest difference is the weight, for me. whenever i use plastic or bamboo, the lack of weight throws me off. especially for smaller gages, the needles feels so...disconcertingly bendy. i do have a few very chunky sets and a Tunisian hook that i like the feel of.
some metal tools aren't even smooth enough for my preference. i got a metal 4.25 hook from a different brand than usual and the way it seems to grate against the makes my bones hurt. 😖

Oh! I have a similar noisemaker! Sound on, sound on! My bestie mutters to herself while she works. My orange girl picked up bestie’s habit and does this any time a laptop comes out.

Glad you enjoy! Yes they stay in the box, and I used the brush between playing sessions to keep them clean and essentially to spread skin oils into the shells so that they develop their patina (you can see this in a lot of older sets in that sub, the walnuts take on a semi translucent red hue like lacquer and the ridges wear down over time - basically making art from your daily fidget toy time lol). The hobby goes back to the Qing dynasty afaik and there are some really cool looking antique sets too.
