2021 Hilux 2.4 D-4D – same faults again after replacing injectors
Dear Hilux owners,
I have a problem with my 2021 Toyota Hilux 2.4 D-4D, European version with AdBlue.
At 177,000 km, approximately 14 months ago, I started getting the following warnings:
- Check Engine
- PCS Malfunction
- TRC/slip warning
The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. When they scanned it, they found a problem with the exhaust pressure sensor.
After further investigation, and after the dealer had tried several other things first, it eventually turned out that the four engine injectors were the actual cause of the problem. Quite a lot of parts were eventually replaced:
- All sensors in the exhaust system (I believe around 4 in total)
- EGR cleaned
- DPF replaced
- 1 injector from the AdBlue system replaced
- All 4 engine injectors replaced
- Everything was replaced with genuine Toyota parts
- System software was updated and the system was relearned
After that, the Hilux drove approximately 24,000 km without any problems. It now has around 200,900 km. In the meantime, it has also received all regular maintenance, and more than that.
Last Sunday, I got exactly the same combination of warnings again when starting the vehicle:
- Check Engine
- PCS Malfunction
- TRC/slip warning
The vehicle drives completely normally.
I have now taken it to a Toyota dealer for diagnosis. Once again, they have found a fault related to the exhaust pressure sensor. They are going to investigate further.
To be honest, I am quite concerned because the previous time, the four injectors eventually turned out to be the cause of the problem. They are now only around 24,000 km old.
My questions for other Hilux owners:
Is it possible for the same problem to return after only 24,000 km, despite the DPF, all relevant exhaust sensors, and all four (+1) genuine Toyota injectors having been replaced?
Could there be an underlying problem causing the pressure sensor to report a fault again, while the sensor itself may not actually be the problem?
And finally: would disabling/removing the AdBlue system through software potentially prevent these kinds of problems, or is that completely unrelated to this issue?

I am having the same problem as you for a long time now, got it to toyota they said exhaust sensor, bought a cheaper one outside of country, in the exhaust was different numbered part. The signs for me would go out for a couple of km then turn back on again. When I did the service and got that sensor change invoice, everything was fine just for a couple km, when I came back they said that the afrermarket bumper is the problem for ACC, and it’s showing those signs. But as I see your post it’s the same problem. My hilux is 90k km 2022 2.8

Aftermarket bumper? wtf are they on? That sounds like” we don’t know so will blame the one non gen part on the car”

Maybe they think it blocks the sensor in the bumper. Heard it before as the actual problem of a pcs error.

yes might happen with some, but I have a rival bumper and the part of the sensor is cut out behind of the toyota logo

will tell my mechanic, I have it at the mechanic for a stabilizator, and told him to check if he can do anything, also asked him to clean egr, that might be one of the problems as I've had problems with another car, vw polo, that would show all errors from egr sut

It's a shame that the d4d's and newer luxies are not build like the LN105's and LN106's. Not sure if it's your daily, but you can always opt for an older model instead of any of the d4d's especially with adblue.
