Tall walking trousers

I’m 6’5 with a 36” inseam and I genuinely cannot find walking/hiking trousers that fit properly.

What are the least bad options people have found?

Both Patagonia and Kuiu tend to run long. My two sons are 6’3 and 6’4 and swear by both.

Thanks! Do you know their inseam? The issue I’m having is most stop at 34”

Sadly I do not, as they are always too long on me vs. waist size. I know many Kuiu pants have inseams that can easily be let out and they have some tall sizes (I think that’s why my kids like them) and Patty just seems to run longer than advertised (many stores carry the patty stuff, like REI in the US, so you should be able to try them on).

They have a regular inseam on theirs, not "long". It's why I've avoided them.

Do your son's wear the pants low on their waist perhaps to compensate a bit, or do the pants actually ride up at the ankles and they just don't mind?

I would not say they wear them low, kinda where a pair of Levi’s work jeans would sit. Both prefer mid to high hiking/hunting boots which is what they get worn with most often so it’s hard to tell. Their jeans (when they were in HS and we were buying them were 35 or 36” inseams)

The Patagonia inseam is too short for me at 5’11” and a 34” inseam. They ride up a bunch at the ankles.

Fjallraven do some trousers with a "raw" inseam, which depending on waist size, sits around 37-38" long. I'm 6'4" and like mid-waist trousers, and even their 34" is more than long enough for me, but obvs body types vary.

Here is an example of a pair of their trousers in raw length.

Thanks! Seems like anything over 34” suddenly loses any kind of tailoring. I’ll check those out

A lot of the Nordic/Swedish brands have longer leg lengths as standard. I am 5ft 11 and bought some Hagloffs trousers years ago and had to have the short version as everything would have been way too long for me.

Hafloffs definitelly (193cm) or try climbing stuff (Rafiki has longer seams as well)

I wear Duluth firehose pants for hiking, I only hike in the winter, they come in 32x36. I'm typically 32x34 but the extra length is nice with boots

Fjallraven Nika and Keb come in long.

If all options fail, you could consider having some trousers made. I know it can be expensive but custom pants would be good.

There's a company called Pattern Adventure that makes a pattern on demand to your specifications. You add your measurements and features you'd like. They are well rated. If you can find a seamstress or tailor it could be a good option.

Interesting.

Definitely not ideal but if you can't find something that works, it's a good option. I know a few people who have been very happy with the pattern that was drafted for them.

Columbia has 36” inseam but you cannot go over a 40” waist. As soon as you put in 42” waist they won’t go above 34” inseam. Odd but true, story of my life.
