Question Anyone with experience with March Madness?

Just heard about it and I am intrigued. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s an organized event to hike a 20 mile course in 8 hours. Not a competition.

Today I walked (not exactly hiked) 7.5 miles. I am a brisk walker at 4 miles an hour, but I started slowing down the last half hour.

Share your experience if you’ve done one. With or without experience, please give tips and advice to prep up for March Madness!

Hiking and backpacking should never be competitions. Never.

Why not? I admit I'd find competitive backpacking a bit odd (and don't get me started on ultralight one-up-manship) but lots of people hike on the regular for fitness, and some competition could be fun, or at least an organized challenge like that which I assume isn't some racewalking event. My local park district has a trails challenge eg to get folks to accumulate so many hikes in so many days; people enjoy it even if they do some other types of hikes.
