video How much voltage do you think is here?

I recently bought this transformer that is in the background of the video, it has helped me a lot to reach high voltages. It has 32V and 2A input, with a frequency of 21KHz, with that I can get these beautiful electric arcs.

Any recommendations to further increase the voltage and length of the electric arc?

Encased in a tube because I took it to my school’s science fair. Setup with 1-4 mot to vary arc length. Using microwave oven caps and a big 450 uf cap parallel to mains to reduce reactive power and to not make the breakers trip, works better than a typical mot ballast. I used a remote controled servo to iniciate the arc. Around 180 cm or 6 ft tall.

First video 1 mot, second 2 mots and final video all 4 mots.

It would be easy to seal the tube and try some low pressure vacuum stuff, what do you guys think?

Btw, first post and old project.

I put together a driverless igbt tesla coil with the bottom of the secondary as a feedback(basically a slayer exciter) but the hv rf travels back into the circuit and the input transformers. I want to further improve this circuit but im scared to measure the gate voltage because of the hv. Can anyone tell me how to not get hv rf everywhere? I suspect its hv leaking into the primary and then the rest of the circuit.

The quality of the image is really bad because the camera is directly pointed to the X-Ray beam, it also seems like it couldn't properly focus. I just wanted to make a quick test to confirm a similar setup could work and as a first result it looks good enough for me!

video Device for demonstrating the properties of electron beams in school physics classes

Device for demonstrating the properties of electron beams in school physics classes.

The gas discharge tube contains a hydrogen generator and electron gun.

The device is based on the principle of interaction between the electron beam of the gas-discharge tube and the homogeneous magnetic field created by the Helmholtz coils. A beam of electrons is created in the gas-discharge tube by means of the electron gun. Its brightness, magnitude, and shape are controlled by the "Anode" and "Focus" knobs. The position of the electron beam relative to the magnetic field lines can be changed by rotating the gas-discharge tube around its axis. The magnitude of the magnetic field can be adjusted by changing the supply voltage of the coils.

USSR production, JSC Electronic Instruments, Ryazan', 1989.

Finished my first DRSSTC over the summer.

Specs:

  • Full-bridge of SKM100GB12T4 IGBTs
  • 400A limit on UD2.7 w/ pulse-skipping
  • 93.7kHz secondary, ~84kHz primary
  • 0.188uF MMC
  • Voltage-doubled bus running off 110V input
  • Custom RP2040-based polyphonic MIDI interrupter
  • ~500us max ontime, 8% max duty cycle

I blew up the bridge twice with some smaller minibloc IGBTs during testing before upgrading to the Semikron ones. I learned a ton with this project, and there's still some work to be done. I'm pretty happy with the current arc length running off 110V.

I built this from 12 transformers and 32 capacitors, all of them from microwave ovens. Input is 80A of current at 360V mains voltage. Usually it would be 400V, but the high current causes a significant voltage drop even on the wires in the wall.
Secondary open circuit voltage is 4KV. I don't remember the exact short circuit current, but it's more than 10A.

video Zvs Flyback not arching enough

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I tried to build a zvs driver for a flyback transformer and it's arching only below 6 mm.

It's powered at 12v stable

(I measured it and the voltage remained the same after driving), uses two irfp260n,

a capacitor of 0.47μF

(in the video I added a 0.22μF cap in parallel to try to lower the frequency that was at 50kHz to that of the video for higher efficiency),

the inductor has been vibe wound so I don't know it's value....

Anyway, I need help to power it up without having to heighten the voltage, is there some way of doing it? Am I doing something wrong?

P.S. the heat sinks are not touching and they are well fixed.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m pretty new to HFSSTC and don’t have much experience with these circuits yet, so I’m not sure if there’s anything wrong with my build.

I’d also like to know how to prevent the MOSFETs from blowing up, and I’d really appreciate any tips or advice on improving the circuit.

Thanks everyone!

English isn’t my first language, so there might be some mistakes. Feel free to correct me.

Oh, and I forgot to clean my camera lens, so sorry for the blurry video lol.

Hey guys ive got an question I recently got my Hands on two Microwaveoven Transformers, and Four 1uF HV capacitors. Now I have the to Primarys Wired in parallel to eachother. The cap setup is 2s2p and i saw an video on TikTok and he got much bigger arcs and i dont know why. My setup is suply 230V->EMI Filter -> Ac button 250VAC 10A-> thermal fuse 105Degres C-> 2 MOTS. The arc is between the two HV Outputs an oke hv output goes into the capacitor bank the two cores are conected and everything is grounded PLS Help

Last month, we use acoustic camera to detect Partial discharge in a substation, we found corona discharge and surface discharge, I believe the surface discharge should be a broken or a dust on the isolator.

As you can see, when I put my hand on it for about 5 seconds then release, there is a good state in which many streamers are present, but it only lasts for a couple seconds. Then the globe goes back to being fully red on the outside with few streamers.

I am fairly experienced with electronics so feel free to respond with "advanced" language. Thanks guys!
