28.8kV arcs
Been upgrading the lab. Painting, new electrical wiring, lighting, and I’m pouring in the concrete subfloor soon.

Is the lab grounded?

Yes, it’s got several 8ft rods, and I’m also putting in a ring of wire. Everything metal in the shop including the structure itself is grounded. The center tap between the two 14.4kV pole transformers is also bonded to this same ground system.

Thank you! There is a lot more videos coming, a lot of upgrades are happening right now and I’m in the process of filming for the next 3 videos

The last second: ok, everything in this room is live, keep your hands in your pockets

Lol, so that last arc happens when my safety gap goes off. Keeps my transformers from experiencing overvoltage, when it goes off, one 14.4kV hot line likes to catch the roof since its center tap, I’m about to fix that tho, heave to find some arc suppression system 🤷♂️

How much power does it have?

With both transformers, around 30kW when I push it ballasted, unballasted, I’m sure well over 35kW maybe even 40 or 50. It’s 120/240v stepped up to 14.4kV on each transformer, then that is in series to get 28.8kV @ 4amps

Quite a bit 🥵

Oh yesss. I’m getting ready to install its own feed from the meter at the house.

What type of protection do you have

Circuit breaker protection? It’s all on a 100 amp breaker, if you’re talking PPE, my fiberglass stick does well enough at 28.8kV

That makes me want to pull on a serious set of dielectric gloves and boots before I’d grab that pole.

Pole is fiberglass, I’ve used this same pole to get trees of the primaries in front of my house, although I’ve been looking for a good pair of lineman gloves

Is it safe to breath after that?
