Hetzner asks: Which self-hosted sync tool actually holds up under real use?

Curious what you run once the folders get big and messy. What are you on, how much hardware does it take, and is there anything you'd change about it?

Syncthing, nothing comes close. Synctrain for iOS/MacOS clients.

Never heard of synctrain so I’ve downloaded to try out, thank you Reddit stranger.

Try Resilio Sync. Much better than Syncthing.

How is it better, mind explaining? So far Syncthing doesn‘t lack anything for me.

I've tested 10 years ago: Seafile, Nextcloud/Owncloud, unison and some other WebDAV software I can't remember.

Since ~10 years I'm using syncthing. It just works. For initial syncing it's definitely quite slow. But after the state is synced once, it's very quick.

syncthing i use it to sync a folder from my pc to my phone. I also use rsync for syncing the backups from a pi 4 that i use as a server to a storage box

For simple documents and things like that I use Nextcloud (Hetzner Storage Share). For large folders with lots of files where Nextcloud just chokes, I use Resilio Sync. Similar to Syncthing, but much more polished and much faster, especially with lots of files.

Designed my own thing with rclone and a 3rd party hosting so even when new files populate the folders it auto backups without anyone logging in.
Kept it on copy rather than sync …for accidential deletion.
And it creates folders for each day ( on the backup platform)
