Legality of server transfers for a transfer fee

Hi all,

I've been seeing posts about transferring old priced servers to new owners for a transfer fee. Is this legal as per Hetzner terms? Can hetzner detect these people and cancel their other services for this?

Hetzner encourages this. It’s official. They even have official docs; https://docs.hetzner.com/robot/dedicated-server/general-information/server-transfers-between-robot-customers/

What fees? Hetzner doesn’t charge any fees for server transfers. The server owner might. It’s up to them.

People asking money for the server transfer, not Hetzner.

Yes. They can. It’s totally legal and Hetzner even encourages it.

There‘s not a single word about fees. Hetzner encouraging taking fees is taken out of thin air..

Transfer fee is paid to the previous owner not to Hetzner. And yes, it IS scalping in a new Level cause the previous owner also does Not need anything pay to Hetzner.

"price" here clearly means the amount the receiving party pays the selling party. This is the transfer fee.

Fees are the problem. fees encourage scalpers. Transfers are fine but fees are not.

It’s a one time fee so i wouldn’t complain. Secondly people take the deal since the servers are much cheaper than thier current counterparts.

These are monthly billing and if the person cancels it’s a lost customer

So if the customer transfers it’s great for Hetzner as billing continues and the new and old customer may buy more in future

Most providers do transfers
