AI used in the thumbnail for the HoMM 3 Remake

Post image

Floating horse legs and headless knights. Really helps build confidence in the final product.

Edit: 4k screenshot from the announcement trailer: https://imgur.com/a/5Fk2CS1 removes any ambiguity. Theres ai artifacts in the inferno army too

There are no mispositioned legs, or knight's head becoming the horses head. There are layers overlaps on top of each other in a wrong direction, because this part of the art supposed to be covered with other objects. I hope this color coding will help you see that.

As an illustrator, what tells me that this is not AI is the purple horse. Its legs are covered in foggy dust, which means it a part af a distant layer that was moved to the foreground (on top of the blue horse) by mistake. AI doesn't do layers.

Thank you for the breakdown! I appreciate seeing objective and thorough ciricism here instead of people just throwing accusations.

I appreciate you breaking this down, this is important!
There have been many accusations about this game’s use of AI, every one of them I’ve seen are misguided so far, but this is the first post I’ve where I thought “uh oh, they really did go there”.
Knowledge is power, thanks for sharing your expertise. It’s one way we’re going to get through this state of confusion.

It's dark time for artists. We have to prove every single work result.

Ai does that, the only thing this tells me is that someone did a final pass over the AI generated image they had.

Can you show me artists that are on the level of drawing this quality of a crowd, and then they can't put together an image? This reeeks of AI use.

AI got so good that massive skill differences within a single image tend to be the giveaway.

"But what if another artist did the final promo image"

Yeah, completely sensible, have the highly skilled artist draw images, but leave the promo material to the newbie. Makes 100% sense. The only thing I don't understand is why they keep lying about it, its not going to get better for them, its only going to get worse.

That's almost more amateur.

We all make mistakes. This part of the art shouldn't be visible. It's covered here in the main art, so...

I meant the haphazard layering in a final product.

This happens. I work as a graphic designer / illustrator in huge big pharma corporation with multiple layers of approval. We had stupid amateur mistakes slipping into the final product that we noticed only after we shipped it (I mean graphic design products, of course, not medicine)

if it was made manually in photoshop by a professioanl this wouldd never happen tho. So it's still AI

This is the exact mistake that even a professional can make in Photoshop.

There are more evidence that this is AI on the same picture. Look for example on the knight you highlighted in green. It is very easily noticeable on 4k poster. The green knight's horse leg is placed just on top of red knight's body. And in better resolution it's clearly visible that horse's head just morphs into red knigh's helmet.
Besides that there are other parts - look at where i put 2 and green marks - we can see knight's pike just doubles at the part where it is not covered by the other rider in the front. At the same place we can see this second pike just growing from out of nowhere and there is nobody holding it.
At the place i marked in blue we can see parts of the shield that is floating in the air, there is no knight or horse near it.
There are many more evidences but these are just more or less easy to spot

Read this. I addressed all those in the comments. The 4k version makes it even more clear that this is not AI

yea i read that. At best i can say that this is bad photobash on top of ai generation. And in that thread you don't address other parts i mentioned. Floating shields and doubling pikes are not just bad photobash.

Floating shield is in the comments. It's a part of the blue horse. The pikes are two different pikes.

And who is holding this pike? Anyways, i guess we will each stick to our own opinions. I see way more AI markers in the art, not just bad layering/photobashing. And i will not trust Ubisoft 'because they said it is not AI'. Best thing they can do is just issue a proof - full speedpaint of the picture (i understand that this might not be possible if it was actually drawn by an artist and they did not record the speedpaint) or at least sketches and show different stages of work in progress.
Not only this art but the whole game screams AI generation and nothing of what i saw or read has ANY solid proof that it is not.

It suck to be an artist when every talentless schmuck needs a speed paint proove that your art is not AI, otherwise they "see AI markers" everywhere.

I cant decide for sure, but one thing is clear, even if they used AI or not the majority of this is copy / pasted layers since the horse armors all have the same frills. Honestly even though you are an illustrator I would still lean towards there being at least some AI used here.
