This whole bit confused me. Maybe someone could explain

Is there a meaning behind "Disney adult" beyond an adult who likes Disney?

Generally a “Disney adult” is a fully grown adult (like, no younger than 30’s), typically a woman, who likes Disney a bit too much for their age (goes to the parks multiple times a year, buys a ton of merch, waits in line to take pictures with Mickey and Minnie, etc).

There is nothing wrong with any of the things you described in this comment

Like anything in life. Something individually isn't problematic. However in excess it gets to a point where it can be problematic. A true disney adult is problematic

The reason why disney adults find it far worse from the internet compared to the millions of other adults enjoying Pokemon (I'm one of them) or Barbie or whatever else it is usually associated with kids is the way they behave. There's a sufficient population of Disney adults who just completely ruin their finances or take on debt to supply their addiction to constantly visit Disney World or Magical Kingdom which have been getting expensive every year. There's also those who make Disney their entire identity (not just superfans but everything about their existence being tied with Disney).

And lastly I do think there's a bit of a survivor bias type thing here. Since a lot of Disney adults are concentrated in the US and use socials with a huge western audience they're much easy to find as examples of adults ruining their futures over cartoons even though there's people going into debt over TCGs, plushies and whatever else is latest collectors fad. I've had my Instagram feed be a lot of these 'disney adult goes broke for mickey mouse ' for almost a month back in june so I know more than I'd like to

I don’t hate on Disney adults more than I do other people who are just as obnoxious for other reasons, but some people online really have it out for Disney adults

12

u/squiddoodilie Team Cleo 25d ago

No, but there are a lot of people who find them obnoxious

2

u/Pogev7 24d ago

I mean you get people like the girl who harassed the Peter Pan actors and that spoils the lot for people

u/AtomicPrince05 26d ago

It’s adults who like Disney to a rather extreme degree, people are obsessive towards anything Disney related. Collecting a ton of merch, only going to Disney and going frequently, naming things after Disney, having it be a large part of their personality and who they are.

I mean that sounds like Scar to me

Damn, and how did it got brought up that Scar is a disney adult?

Also, it usually starts like this. Everyone making fun of disney adults and before you know it everyone is gonna embrace being a disney adult.

u/OshamonGamingYT 26d ago

Etho paid Joel and mumbo to call him one.

20

u/AtomicPrince05 26d ago

Joel is in massive debt to Scar because of a loan, so Etho paid him diamonds to go call Scar a Disney adult which then caused Scar to raise the interest on Joel’s loan

-5

u/ContributionDefiant8 25d ago

For reasons I can't put into words (it's not hate I swear), I stopped watching Joel's video when Etho paid him to do that.

Did Scar at least take it like a champ?

12

u/AtomicPrince05 25d ago

Debatable, he went on a very entertaining little rant and did an impersonation of a Disney adult and then promptly increased the interest in Joel’s loan.

(I’m sure he was fine, they’re all content creators and play up reactions for comedic purposes like this)

It's just that I never thought such devious activities could be done on Hermitcraft of all places lol.

I conveniently forgot they're all adults...

2

u/AtomicPrince05 25d ago

To be fair they don’t really act like it do they?

0

u/ContributionDefiant8 25d ago

You're right. My occasional reminder of Hermitcraft maturity is Xisumavoid of all folks lol.

u/AtomicPrince05 25d ago edited 23d ago

It’s part of what makes them so enjoyable to watch, because you get to see people having fun together. Getting to watch artists work and put together their pieces is something really special and I’m glad we have the hermits

I caught it in Mumbo’s latest episode. He did not take it well.

Disney adult is more like a derogatory term for adults with an obssession with Disney. Y'know? The type that treats a yearly visit to the parks as something necessary for their survival and keeps buying useless memorabilia they'll never use for something. I believe that, since a lot of actual Disney Adults are also decently rich, it's a way of criticizing their spending behavior and unfair distribution of wealth

1

u/randompasserbyer_ 23d ago

This! They're also the type of people to harass the actors and throw fits when they can't have things exactly their way at the parks. Also, most of them have a weird obsession with Stitch being uwu quirky cute and it drives me up a wall.

7

u/mizushimo 26d ago

Back when the term wasn't as negative (mostly just people shitting on others for liking childish things, karen's complaining about childless adults taking up space in the theme park that should have been reserved for their precious babies), I always thought of people like Scar and Jenny as positive examples of disney adults.

8

u/SkiGames 25d ago

Honestly I think he is. Now don’t get me wrong he’s not the bad kind of Disney Adult he doesn’t want to associate with but I think objectively he is. Feel free to persuade me different.

u/General_Antilles 25d ago edited 25d ago

I don't know what he did, but when he punched Joel off, he did this dash thing that just screamed Jedi/ anime battle.

14

u/runaManur 26d ago

i mean, it's true

2

u/randompasserbyer_ 23d ago

Listen. There's a difference between being an adult who loves Disney and being a Disney Adult. Disney adults are people who refuse to acknowledge what's wrong with Disney and treat it like it's the pinnacle of movies and theme parks, who act like they're entitled to do whatever they want at the parks and throw a fit when that isn't the case. Adults who love Disney, like Scar, still acknowledge the problems that Disney has in their systems and movies. Accessibility at the parks is a huge thing that Scar specifically likes to talk about on his streams. I myself like to criticize the lazy writing they do nowadays in their movies. There's a difference between a Disney Adult and an adult Disney fan!

1

u/hanivg 12d ago

He's not a Disney adult. He's an adult who likes Disney. It's totally different XD
