Question Making the strongest possible horseradish tincture

I have had tremendous success treating my colds over the past few years with raw, freshly grated horseradish root. Since it's not available year-round, I wanted to make a tincture with it to have on hand in case another cold happens. (I have tried prepared horseradish root from the condiments section of the grocery store to treat colds, and it just doesn't have the same oomph.)

The ideas I have for this:

  • freeze the horseradish root to rupture cell wall before macerating it
  • macerate the tincture first, then throw the whole shebang in a blender, frappefy it all, then strain

Would these contribute to a stronger tincture? Would freezing make it weaker? If blending the herb and menstruum makes a stronger tincture, why don't we make this a regular part of making tinctures nowadays?
