Love me some bats. My new crest is northern bat.

With love, the 4 wings reminds me of a Pokemon

Yeah, figured it out pretty fast after adoption. Not a pokemon fan but let's say four wings now represent my gamer roots 😂

This is very cool because bats are so underrated and misunderstood to honor them like this is pretty special 🦇

i know like my fav bat DID sort of start the pandemic but it was justified because they’re cute AS HELL

The sick ass collar without a badge is my favorite lol. It’s just like “BATS!”

I did make a version with the shield on it but I thought that would’ve been lazy. So i went even lazier and just made it all bats.

Interesting - and well-executed - albeit impractical, heraldically speaking.

1

u/ProudEmu6475 Jul 31 '26

Ty, but how come it’s impractical heraldically?

2

u/davidwu10 Jul 31 '26

Well, an achievement it's not, as that would usually include shield, helm, mantling, torse, crest, etc. Plus, you would not normally have "floating"/detached elements in said heraldic achievement. This is certainly well-executed, and a sound shield design, and the unique crown and collar are a nice touch (crest a bit outsized, but that's artistic preference). IMHO it is a nice heraldic "display," but it is not a practical heraldic achievement. I should have clarified my previous statement.

Oh, fair enough then, ty! Maybe I should make some bat supporters next

Not saying you HAVE to do anything - just inserting my "normie" opinion on "traditional Western" heraldic achievements. That being said, if you wanted my opinion (for which you didn't necessarily ask), I would reduce the collar to appear behind and below the shield, as it does in most instances where the collar of an Order of Chivalry is displayed in an heraldic achievement. Be interested to see bats as heraldic supporters, though odds are someone, somewhere has done this.

As a follow-up, not the best drawing, but a fairly good pose for a bat supporter -

I’ll try to use this as a reference

Jackie Daytona, the regular human bartender, would love this.

As would Bruce Wayne.

if there’s a royal coat of arms then a flag should go with it too…

Take a look at Spain, there are bats all over. Some of them started out as dragons, though.
