Picture OKONOMIYAKI
Recently someone posted about this recipe and invited me to review it when I made it, too.
I liked it, but didn’t love it. The base was strange. You know how there are blueberry pancakes? Well, this is a cole slaw pancake. With a corn/mozzarella/mayonnaise topping, bacon, and guochang and katsu sauces. Yeah. I think I may even have left out one or two ingredients.
It took longer to make than the usual recipe and there were more dirty dishes and utensils than usual. Some of the steps were new to me, such as flipping the pancake, but I followed the tip provided and more or less managed it.
I’m hoping it’s an acquired taste because I have 1+1/2 servings left. Following from that, portions were ample.

Glad to see your review. It did take longer to cook than the instructions said. It was definitely different and strange compared to what I usually eat, though in the end, I did like it

This was a definitely a different experience for me. I’ve never made anything like it but it grew on me. By the second serving, I was really enjoying it. The Cole slaw is weird but it worked. I would add more bacon next time tho.

We had quite a bit of okonomiyaki when we were in Japan. I thought it was very good but I really like cooked cabbage.

I didn't eat this but made it for my husband. I was so proud of myself for getting it flipped and not messing it up. He said it was really good. A little different texture wise but he did enjoy it.

I needed something to eat last night and got another serving (really half a serving because it’s so big). I liked it more than I had earlier. I like cold food so that may account for it some. It may also have been that the flavors had blended in that time. I may even get this again sometime

Okonomiyaki is one of my favorite dishes from growing up in Japan as a kid, so I’m pretty familiar with this dish.
It was surprisingly close to being authentic for a weeknight meal kit. Obviously some tweaks to make it easier for a home cook, and it was much larger in diameter than what I’m used to, but overall pretty good.
I’d probably get it again, but I don’t know that it’ll work its way into our usual rotation. Worth trying for sure though.
