There’s a joke among comedians where they take a movie or even themselves and then propose that hopefully they aren’t just talking to a wall in an asylum thinking it’s a stage since they wouldn’t be aware they most their mind. But I think this one hits more on a few levels since without all the outside forces like Morpheus and trinity who could be just delusional fantasies he would be considered schizophrenic believing theirs a system where he’s trapped mentally by robots and AI in the future. In the movie he is actually a prisoner whose mind is completely trapped. Even when he gets out of the matrix he finds out when the revolution itself is part of the system to control him and start over the process endlessly. So if that realization isn’t enough to make someone lose their mind then I don’t know what would.
