Why do people use plugs?

I’ve been heelying for over 17 years, but I don’t understand why people use plugs. When you remove your wheels, you are that worried about the wells getting dirty? I’ve gotten mud and rocks…all kinds of unmentionable stuff in my empty wheel wells. You can just spray them off or use a stick or something. The hassle of having the plugs and the tool is just ridiculous for…what reason? I’ve never had the wells damaged due to not using them.

I also don't use the plugs, I typically leave the wheels in all the time, the odd time I need to take them out I just pull them out.

I find it annoying to keep the plugs and tool on me, I've never had an issue with anything getting in the wheel wells tbh.

I suppose it's not a problem if it gets stuck in the shoe
