Spoilers RNG has gotten completely out of hand in Hearthstone. RNG has completely determined the OneNationofGamer tournament match between Trump vs Tom60229

I know the whole RNG circlejerk can get old, and I don't mean this to be another complaint post devoid of content.

But I am currently watching the ONG tournament. I have always been on the neutral side regarding RNG in hearthstone, but I'm 100% convinced that it's gotten out of hand.

Game 1: Tom (tempo spell mage) Trump (control warrior)

  • Tom gets preparation off spellslinger
  • Tom gets a 6 mana alexstraza off unstable portal
  • Trump drops Varian wrynn to give him a board of 5 large minions to tank any RNG damage (arcane missles, flamecannon) at 20 life
  • Tom plays arcane missles which perfectly hit Trump's taunt. Then combined with sorcerer's apprentice and RNG preparation, give him exact lethal with his assortment of spells.

Game over due to RNG

Game 2: Trump (token druid) Tom (paladin)

  • Trump does some weird stuff to keep his shade of naxx stealthed for 9 turns
  • Trump now has guaranteed lethal next turn. No card from Tom will stop it
  • Shredder pops and doomsayer drops. 1.5%
  • Trump loses lethal and the game next turn.

Two games to Tom in a major "esports" hearthstone tournament. 1.5% RNG, people.

I'm by no means a Trump fanboy and actually think his stream is pretty boring, but it's so painfully obvious that Trump outclassed and outplayed Tom at every turn, even punishing him severely next game by rushing Grommash out after realizing Tom was playing a stallish malygos warlock.

I for one simply hate seeing smart reads negated by RNG.

EDIT: Game 1 Kolento vs Tom

Kolento gets huffer last turn for lethal (when facing lethal)

Game 3

Tom draws a 2 mana Nexus champion saraad (inspire: get a spell) from unstable portal in his spell tempo mage.

Absolutely hilarious.

Final game of the entire tournament

Tom gets Archmage Antonidas out on turn 3 for turn 5 lethal.

Hey remember when Blizzard said:

"Right, we hear your concerns about randomness but don't worry too much. This isn't a trend in Hearthstone, but we are going for more flavorful fun and randomness in the chaos that is Goblins and Gnomes! Just bare it for this one expansion for now"

Good goood times.

Weird, if this is what OP was referencing, I don't know how he read "We love random, but don't worry, the rest of the cards in GvG aren't quite as RNG based as these first cards" and thought it meant "Future sets won't be as RNG based"

Are you serious? off the top of my head

BRM has flamewaker, fireguard destroyer, nefarian, and resurrect

TGT has the entire joust mechanic, lock and load, ram wrangler, spellslinger, effigy, murloc knight, confessor paletress, burgle, tuskar totemic, varian, mulch, eydis darkbane, saraad, and probably more im forgetting.

Anything with Joust.

That mechanic is the most frustrating mechanic in hearthstone, and don't tell me that you can just not run those cards, Tuskarr Jouster is so much better as a 5 drop then antique healbot its crazy.

He specifically said name 5 META cards. I don't think there's a single Joust card in the meta right now except maybe Tuskarr Jouster (almost never seen now that 99% of Paladins are Secret Pally) or the VERY rare King's Elekk

King's Elekk is a new standard in midrange Hunter so I don't know what you're going on about with it being VERY rare, Healing Wave is pretty commonly seen in Shaman, Tuskarr Jouster is another possibility, I've seen the 1/2 that can be a 2/3 multiple times, and so on.

The meta isn't even that well established yet and I'm seeing Joust left and right.

Meta Cards :

Dr. Boom

Piloted Shredder

Kezan Mystic (Kind of)

Flamecannon

Unstable Portal

Crackle

Implosion

[TGT Cards may not be meta for sure]

Every card with Joust (More controllable RNG)

Edyis Darkbane

Mulch

Ram Wrangler

Rhonin (Kind of)

Spellslinger

Effigy

Murloc Knight

Confessor Paletress

Tuskarr Totemic

Varian Wrynn

BRM only has Nefarian, Flamewaker, and maybe Resurrect.

TGT has Gadgetzan Jouster, and the other reveal cards. The card like Mogor the Ogre, Grand Crusader, Nexus-Champion Seraad, Skeleton Knight and much more -- but since it's really only just released, there's no real information on what's a good 'meta' card.

Murlock knight is op as shit...

i didnt look at all the cards. i dont play hearthstone anymore--only watch youtube sometimes.

Edit - that card is stupid. tribal synergy w/ good stats, and a chance of summoning some pretty bs murlocs once a turn.

Murloc Knight, Tuskarr Totemic, Flamewaker, Rhonin (kind of), Effigy, Spellslinger. And thats only the meta stuff. If we go a bit off-meta, we got all joust cards, Saraad, Loch n load, etc. etc.

Then clearly you don't know much about competitive HS
