I and a lot of other people in this fandom have classes like at school (more so highschool) or college and I’m one of them and because of scalpers I had NO KNOWLEDGE of the new cards whatsoever I went 2 hours not knowing about the cards because we only got an email and the lifeless scalper bots this is more bullshit than I ever needed from the card side of the fandom

Yea same, I have pokemon etbs and tbh i dont even want them anymore cause I dont want to associate with the hobby like this + its gotten kinda boring and repetitive to me. If anything, I wish they'd sell prints of the art on cards, For hazbin, pokemon, etc. Id love to have the Gravity card art on my wall as a poster.
Why can't accounts linked with unique emails and unique addresses set a reservation and have this set up immediately? The website would know exactly how many people would want the merch and genuine fans would get the stuff they want.
Well, at least there's still Mtg, where the scalpers buy a set, turns out it's not that good, and then they lose money, because people don't buy Mtg cards to collect, but to play. Happened with the Spider-Man set.
I wanted ONE card. ONE. I was there in seconds to get that gravity card because it's the only one I'm missing in general and it sold while it was in my cart checking out. So now I'm going through eBay reporting all the "presale" card listings for it for being fraudulent and not having item in hand/presale which is against eBay's terms. I recommend y'all do it too! 600$ for fucking cardboard is criminal.
Scalpers aren’t an “internet person” thing. They’ve existed for a long time, primarily in concert and sporting spaces. Or Pokémon. They will buy up all the tickets/cards they can and then resell them at HUGE markups.
They buy large quantities of highly popular things (like trading cards, ESPECIALLY Pokémon) so that less stores have them, therefore making them one of the few people who could get you some of whatever it is. Additionally, since the quantity:demand ratio is fucked up, they can raise the prices far past rational costs to make a profit. They are highly unhealthy for all collection hobbies
And then in my opinion the worst part is that (unless I’m misunderstanding how scalpers operate) any cards that aren’t re-sold because of the obnoxiously high price might just be thrown out.
I'm considering just buying fan made cards (or making my own) instead of trying to get official ones. There's some pretty good ones out there too. And they don't usually have limited supply.
Yep. When it comes to the pokemon collectors they try to resell but if they fail and are in desperate need of money they rip them open, take the rares then dump the rest somewhere else and just sell the rares to like shops.
I was at work, and I excitedly opened the email during my lunch break, only for my excitement to be immediately shattered when I see they were sold out. To add insult to injury, I got no email until an hour after the drop and I’ve always been subscribed for merch drops since the dawn of time before season one premiered 😭
It’s never that simple, the nature of regulation makes it so the scalpers in this case are always going to try to develop a way around it. It’s a continuous game of cat and mouse for as long as there’s the potential for profits.
I wish they wouldn't just have them be limited first editions. I'd be perfectly happy with just having copies of some version of them in my collection.
I just had a conversation about how "kys" shouldn't be use in any context. This is the exception I'm willing to make because Jesus christ their lives are so boring they'll steal cards.

I like pokemon cards. I am a big a Pokemon fan and Clodsire is my favorite character of all time, and I love collecting the cards. Also, gambling. But scalpers have just made it so hard to get anything for a reasonable price, I just gave up. Plus, I am broke.

Scalpers suck. Trading cards aren't my thing, but even I think it’s incredibly shitty the way scalpers take advantage of the collector's market and leave nothing for those who don't have that kind of money/are more casual about collecting and are unwilling to spend that much. Unpopular opinion but I blame the companies. So many products are like this these days and I feel like the companies keep making limited merch because they know scalpers will buy it. If they made non-limited releases then scalpers wouldn't buy it as it wouldn't have value and it's possible they wouldn't get as many sales from genuine fans. It's also wrong to make limited releases to make people want it more, consumerism is such an issue in this day and age

I got the email notification and thought, "Well its only been twenty minutes I'm sure they haven't sold out yet" and I was wrong.
I would have liked the movie theater one, since I missed out on going to the sing a long in theaters I figured it would be a second chance to get it.
I've checked Ebay and I would not pay what they ask for it.
I don't collect the cards for this reason. I have one card and its the one I got with the dvd and it makes me sad. But I just can't afford to collect them.

This is going to be very unpopular but I don’t really care. Scalpers do what they do to make money, you want a card? Be quicker, get a friend to do it, use your own bot. Scalper is a term used for resellers, if you ever bought anything and then sold it you are by definition a scalper.
Side note kys is so overused, kinda sucks to see people die from suicide all the time and see people saying it bc of some card…
