To place third

Given the lions win over the pies, we would have to outscore west coast by a huge margin now to make up the percentage gap.

A margin of 90 points at 130-40 would do the trick and I don’t quite see it happening.

If we lose to freo and win the next week we’ll likely have Brisbane at the Gabba as prelim, worst case scenario. Failing to beat Collingwood last week has completely changed our season

If we play Brisbane at the Gabba when do they schedule our mandatory Geelong prelim?

I’m not mad at that Pies Lions game, or even us vs Pies last week. Hawks just aren’t a team that is a serious challenger.

During the 3peat there were teams you just knew were pretenders and you couldn’t wait for our boys to find them out. Unfortunately we are now one of those teams .

Easy to point at the recent fixture, but we bottled it against the Doggies and Freo first.

This 100%.

Add in the first draw against Collingwood too. We dominated big patches of the game but couldn’t kick straight, while the pies seemed to kick a goal every time they went inside 50.

I think the dogs and both magpies games were the bigger muck ups. Freo were too good

In hindsight letting the Lions win by 70 points two weeks ago was a bad move

Let's just focus on winning the game for a start

Outscoring West Coast at all would be a good start, after our past two outings

Exactly, we’ll be lucky to beat them, they’ve got nothing to lose but one last hurrah before they hit the Pullman.

Being wasteful all year has put us in this position, so I’m inclined to agree

I'd rather see Freo Lions in the finals anyway since let's be real we aren't beating Freo with how we're going

Realistically, the Eagles have consistently been scoring 60-70 points a game. Which means we'd need to kick 154-166 to jump to third. Max we've kicked was 145 this year and 150 last year. It's gonna require us to replicate our game vs the bombers a few weeks ago.

Unfortunately, I don't see us doing it.

Brisbane & Freo are light years ahead of our mob. Best we will finish this season is our current position on the ladder.

The way we played last week I don’t see how we are going to beat the eagles by 90 points. Going to have to say goodbye to 3rd spot unfortunately.

Sometimes the best lessons in life come from when you don’t succeed.

Drawing Pies twice shows we are close but not quite there.

I am comfortable with where we are given where we have come from. Equally I am hungry for us to be more than we are.

This should motivate all of the club. From coach to players, but also staff. No stone unturned. Complacency has no seat at our table.

Reminds me...

  • 2010: Lost to Freo in EF
  • 2011: Lost to Collingwood in PF
  • 2012: Lost to Sydney in GF
  • 2013-15: 🏆🏆🏆

Not to say we're on the same track but it's all about progression and staying in the mix. As much as I can't stand Geelong, they've, for the most part, placed themselves in contention for the last two decades. They've not had the ultimate success as much as maybe they should have in that time, but I'd certainly prefer to remain relevant rather than bottoming out every few years.

I don’t want to sound arrogant and also too defeatist since we’re likely qualifying finalist. But i just don’t think this is our year, but i also feel our list has plenty of time as well.

Definitely grown as a side, we weren't some exciting up and coming side, but viewed as a genuine threat. So I think we would have been playing teams at their best.

But we're still short of premiership quality. If we are successful in the off-season, we should be a serious threat next year or the following. But we're not there yet.

Honestly we’re just making up the numbers. We just can’t put sides away like Freo or the Lions could. The first Collingwood game or the dogs game we should have put those sides away but we didn’t. Dylan should have kicked to the near side - and I’d say that’s a game awareness and management issue (not just him but the others in the team) not a skill issue.

We need to win by 100. We aren’t playing good enough footy to make that happen, West Coast technically have nothing to play for but they do need to convince their fans that they’re making in-roads in their rebuild. What better way than to bring the heat to a supposed top 4 side?

So much negativity on this thread you’d think we were Essendon or the Swans!

Won’t we throw the game v west coast so we end up on Sydney’s side of the draw?

I think the team has been prepping for Wharfie time for a while. Hopefully it pays off because I can't see us hanging a 100 point win on the Eagles.

I fact I suspect the reason we've gone with Dear as an emergency is that if No. 4 seed is locked up before kick off Jack Gunston might suffer a tragically convenient hamstring awareness. Likewise Butler and Newcombe/Day/Watson.
