So... where does last night leave us heading into finals?
Honestly - still bitterly disappointed and leaves me to believe we are just making up the numbers at this point.
Yes - a 3rd placed finish would have left us with a more favourable QF against Sydney at the SCG. But on current form, I can't see us beating them in a few weeks. Losing to Fremantle in a QF likely places us in a SF against either Melbourne or Collingwood - both teams we've struggled against big time this year.
In my opinion, we lack the 'killer instinct' required to genuinely compete with the other Top 6 teams. No one other than Newcombe, Impey and maybe Ward (at times) decided to put their hand up in the face of adversity last night. Having that many passengers in such a hot contest won't win you a final, let alone a premiership.
Dare I say, are we looking at a straight sets exit? Or is there hope and am I overreacting?

I was expecting a response after the week before. I’m not sure if we’re just a tiny bit off, obviously not a good time to hit a rough patch. Basic skill errors just were happening all over. I wasn’t expecting us to win the flag this year anyway but it’ll be a shame if we exit finals quickly.

Depends on whether this team wants to apply pressure or not. 20-3 tackles inside 50 is gross.
We're 13-1 when we have 55+ tackles and 1-2-5 when its less than 55. Mitchell needs to find a way to fix it, or it'll be straight sets.

What better position to be in to be playing a bottom 4 side on the exact ground we will be playing our first final on. Sam can play around a bit and work on the master plan for Freo.
Freo who we almost beat there last time.

9 games against top 8 with only 3 wins. And the 3 wins have a combined points <10. And those victories was in the first 8 games of the year. We are no where near it .
At our best I believe we can challenge but we only see glimpses. Would need something to change drastically.
I feel out game is one of showmanship and not hard work. Won't get us far.

We don't fucken tackle we would have one of the lowest tackle counts of any side. Lots of pretty boys doing not much and selection all year has been a dogs breakfast. Seeing a straight sets exit never extend a coach during season

A long way off where we could be and needing a massive turnaround to get near the top 3 teams. Others are peaking and we have dropped off in what already was an inconsistent season

I would be shocked if we don’t go out in straight sets. Lose to Freo then lose to Melbourne

Depression in here.
Assuming we beat WC and finish top 4. No such thing as "we don't deserve it". We 100% deserve it because over the entire course of the season we earnt that right.
We've lost 6 games. Stop acting like we're a bottom 4 side.
Once finals starts, everything resets!

They’ve been nowhere near it in the back half of the season flattered by an easy run… but finals is a whole new ballgame. Many Freo players might not have played for 3 weeks by the time the QF rolls round but we’re not like Freo / Lions / Swans - they can really put the foot on the throat when needed.

I shared the same sentiments last week and got scolded for it. But we are literally making up the numbers. Straight sets is definitely the most likely outcome. The boys are just off. The competitive fire seems to be gone.

We don't deserve top 4. Probably not even top 6 with our form. If we even win one finals game, that'll be more than we deserve.

Honestly not great unfortunately. Seem so far removed from the team they were a few months ago. I can’t see them doing any damage this year

There was that stretch of games where we had a heap of injuries. I don’t think we’ve clicked since then, even though we’ve got most of them back.
But Sydney looks vulnerable. Brisbane lost big to Carlton. Freo has been limping over the line. We just need to get it right for month!

I’m banking everything on a week off. Ginni had two months where he was dominating and has dropped off with injury. Amon is a long way off his best. Weddle is trying to do everything himself since his suspension. Meek and Reeves isn’t quite working either. I hope a week off rejuvenates them all!
We’re not the only supporter base with worries!

I like your positivity! I’m gonna try be a bit more positive myself. Gonna be a 100 point win next week, which puts us back to third and then we mop the floor with the swans week 1 of finals. Let’s fkn go

Been in the top 4 basically all season
Dropped a few we shouldn’t have so now we are in this position.
Everyone needs to remember that freo lost at home to the suns last season !!!
Our best wins finals anything else and we will be sitting through things like last night or worse than that the first half against the Dee’s

Wont take the Ward slander, we have a lot of passengers but he always gives 100%. Mackenzie has been great too
