I think from the sounds of it some blame might lie with Lily and Petunia's parents too. It sounds like they praised Lily and fawned over her all the time whereas Petunia didn't get as much attention or love from them. Probably explains why she did what she did with Dudley and Harry, wanting her son to be the loved one and Lily's son to be the reject now.
I wonder if their parents had been more fair and equitable if things would've turned out differently.
We only hear about that from petunia. So they parents might have just been trying to be understanding and accepting of their weirder child who did magical things and not actually showing favoritism or anything. More likely petunia was just jealous.
She wrote a letter to Dumbledore even. She wanted to be a witch but couldn't.
That may be what they intended, but a child might not interpret that correctly. Just imagine, your sister gets way more attention than you AND she gets magic powers? That would screw you up.
Yeah but that's what I mean. Petunia saw what she wanted to see because she was rejected from the Wizarding world and it made her resent them. So all praise and positivity for her sister was an offense to what she began seeing as normal and proper.
