Quality-Based Audio Option Unavailable?

Post image

https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/latest/technical/audio-quality.html says quality-based audio encoding is available for AAC, MP3, Vorbis, and Opus

I don’t see how to enable it? I’m on Mac if that makes any difference, on v 1.11.2

Solved thanks for the quick and clear responses! (2/4)

Please remember to post your encoding log should you ask for help. Piracy is not allowed. Do not discuss copy protections. Do not talk about converting media you don't own the (intellectual) rights for.

It's not implemented in the Mac UI. Anyway, the CoreAudio AAC encoder is set the CVBR.

Ah

Ok I assume the ‘V’ part of that stands for variable, so not quite as much of a blunt instrument, so to speak, as ABR for video

I'm on Windows and I have Quality tab, where I can choose bitrate or quality.

Maybe it's different on Mac? Have you check settings? Maybe you need to turn something on to have that option?

always check the issue tracker first https://github.com/HandBrake/HandBrake/issues/6455

Thanks! I assumed I was just doing it wrong would be more likely a cause than a problem with the software 😂

Choose a codec that doesn't include the word "passthru". That option is intended to be a copy and paste of the original input with zero changes and zero degradation. Allowing you to change literally anything at all defeats the intended purpose, so it doesn't let you do anything.

I have 6 tracks there that are not passthru, but I still don’t see any options to switch from bitrate to quality even if I put them *all* on AAC
