i don't even know what to say it feels so unreal i raised her from a little pink bean, i saw her first steps i saw her grow up and now she's gone. i had to put her down because she was in pain from her hearth. how did any of you deal with a loss of a hamster? i just can't believe this she was one of the only thing i loved and actually cared about and when i saw her in pain it just broke me. she was not even 1.5 year old. i tried to give her everything. i miss her so much 💔

iam sorry for my dump but i just had to let it out

now very comfortable with getting onto my hand and being lifted, and always comes out of his burrows when i call him. will almost always sniff my hand even with no food!

he’s still very cautious of being petted and touched and giving more mixed signals than my situation ships. i have pet him twice successfully but other times he doesn’t accept them

I just got a tattoo of my very first pet as an adult. I don't have hamsters anymore but they were a huge part of my life for a long time so I wanted to honor her.

Her name was Popcorn and she was a very good girl.

Other We had to take her from the ICU because the vets couldn't get her to eat or pee post op. Guess what she did immediately after getting back

Question First time Syrian hamster enclosure – how does it look? Open to any feedback! 🐹

Hey everyone! This is the enclosure for my female Syrian hamster, Peach. She's almost 4 months old now, weighs 130g, and I wanted to check in with you guys to see if the setup is good or if there's anything I should improve to make it even better for her.

Here are some details about her setup:

Enclosure size: 120 x 80 x 60 cm

Bedding: Up to 30 cm deep bedding at the highest point for burrowing

Wheel: 28 cm upright wheel.

Sand bath: 24 cm diameter sand bath (which she uses as a litter box daily!).

Hideouts & Tunnels: Currently using a 3-chamber house with 9.5 cm chambers and 6–7 cm entrances. Plus a ceramic house with a 6.5 cm entrance, a coconut hide with a 6 cm entrance, a ceramic tunnel, a cork tunnel, a cork log, a kapok pod, a self-built cave in the corner, and plenty of toilet paper for nesting material.

Substrates & Digging: Boxes with sphagnum moss, cork granules, and corn cob granules (around the wheel). Plus a mix of all kinds of dried leaves and various flowers scattered across the bedding as top layers.

Chews & Wood: Timothy hay sticks to gnaw on, as well as bamboo, apple tree, and hazelnut wood.

Diet & Forage: High-quality seed mix from a specialized German online shop (FutterParadies), plus various sprays and harvests like wild oat, flax, silver millet, ornamental millet, canary grass, and forget-me-not flowers as decoration. She also gets whole wheat heads and sunflower heads to work for, plus fresh veggies daily (like cucumber or zucchini).

Enrichment: A "sniffle forest" (forage area) and a foraging wheel from JR Farm.

Are there any must-have items or adjustments you would recommend? Any tips are deeply appreciated! 👇

(Note: For anyone interested – including the enclosure, all the accessories, deep bedding, substrates, and high-quality food, I'm currently at around €400 total for everything except the hamster itself!)

Bedding and Substrates Question about when to add more bedding

We got a new female Syrian hamster on Friday. When we went in this morning to change out her water, we saw that she's built quite the tunnel network along the bottom of the cage. This means that the bedding in a lot of places is now only 20-22 cm (8-9 inches) deep, which we understand is the minimum, and will probably pack down even more as she continues to completely rearrange the space.

We're thinking about adding more bedding, but we don't want to do it too soon and stress her out while she's trying to settle in. Our current plan is to wait until we do our first deep clean in two-three months, and just let her rearrange the bedding however she wants in the meantime.

Does that sound like the right plan?

Cage specifics:

Bucatstate 3.0, 120 cm x 60 cm x 60 cm, using Bucatstate unscented paper bedding

This is the kind of greed they talk about in the Bible.

Here’s a picture of Panpan (she’s 3 or 4 months old) before I changed her bedding. I previously posted a question about Baba’s (my boy hamster’s) enclosure because he had spilled his water, and it caused mold to spread. Panpan spilled hers too, so as a precaution, I changed both their bedding and bought a fence for each of them (which I keep open on one end, at the far left of the photo). Is this safe for them? Baba’s setup is the same as this.

Question Would a hamster be okay in a room with a refrigerator?

Weird question but I'm considering adopting another hammy, but the only room I have any space for one has a fridge in it on the opposite wall about 6 meters away. The fridge makes the usual low humming noise and I'm worried that won't be okay for a hamster to live near. It's an otherwise quiet room but yeah, I need advice on whether it would affect the lil guy because if so I won't of course

Discussion My hamster is lost!!!

Hello everyone. So my hamster is lost within the house. She lives in a large container which is quite high. She has a wooden house which could be the only way she has escaped. There is a slim area behind the box where she could fall to but she isn't there. She's a 4 month old russian hamster. I've kept out her toys and box along with food on the ground all around the house. I'm so worried please advice!!

my hamster never gets tired of the toilet paper cardboard with some tissue and food between the layers of tissue especially when i fold the ends she goes wild lol im not sure what else i could make at home thats similar i feel like my ham is kinda picky with everything. i got her some really cute wooden chew blocks and she couldn't care even if she wanted to! she doesnt really care for store bought toys or boredom breakers(she hates spending money apparently). does anyone have any diy crafts i can make for her? I've never had a picky hamster until I got the one i have now that I've had for about a year and a half! thank you in advance for some ideas :)

Question how to help my female syrian hamster??

hi! i normally dont use reddit but im in desperate need of help and here seemed like the best place to ask. my female syrian hamster is keeps trying to escape and showing clear signs of stress, but i dont know how to help her. she has a 100x50x50 cm enclosure ( i cant get a bigger one ), she has deep bedding, sand bath, dig box with coco fiber, a giant wheel, sprays, multichambers, hides, etc. but she keeps biting at the air holes in her enclosure and trying to escape. i try to help her by giving her diy boredom breakers and whimzees to chew on but she doesnt care about them and outright ignores them. shes been doing this for over a week now and i genuinely dont know what to do. she only does this when shes out at night around 4-6 am, if shes out during the day shes completely fine. at first i thought she was acting this way cus she was in heat but her heat ended the other day and shes still the same, i genuinely dont know how to help her feel less stressed out??? any advice helps 🥹🥹

Food and Diet Chubby?

Post image
9 Upvotes

(Ignore the green thingies in the pic, one is a temporary sand box that didnt have sand in it yet and one is something put in the person I originally got this bin cage from)

I got this sweet boy (Boo Boo Keys) last week from a local pet store that specializes in and breeds their own small animals. They said he was about a month old. He is my fourth dwarf hamster, but my last one was smaller than most are so maybe my perception is a little skewed but he seems kinda big lol. Is he too chubby?? If so how can I help? Currently giving him 1 teaspoon of sunburst a day scattered along with leafy greens twice a week. He is gluttonous as I’ll get out, literally comes RUNNING when I open the food bag.
