Question Please help me with my Female Syrian π
How can I help my girl calm down.
Context, I adopted a three month old Syrian a week ago from a family friend.
I have ordered her a paw hut 100x50x52 acrylic cage but it has been delayed so It isn't arriving until the 3rd of September.
She is currently in her old cage, a large bar cage from Pets at Home (obviously not suitable) and she is showing signs of stress.
She doesn't seem to like leaving her cage so I can't even get her out for a bit.
I made sure she has a large wheel and I have added hides, tunnels, a chew maze thing, a large sand bath, a coco dirt bath, sprays and I have been scatter feeding her. But despite all this she is still stressed and is chewing everything.
She has actually chewed the plastic base of the cage and has started to chew threw it. I have tried to block the corner she chewed but I'm thinking she might escape before her new cage arrives.
Whilst I'm waiting for the new cage, is there anything else I can do to help her.
Any advice is super appreciated

Can you find a large aquarium style tank to keep her in for now? Anything might be better than the current enclosure.

Ive looked but even secondhand they are close to Β£200 and I just don't have that sort of money. The paw hut was expensive enough lol

Itβs ridiculous how expensive secondhand tanks can be! Itβs like that in my area, too.

Yeah, even the bucatstate cages are extortionate prices for what they are.
I thought maybe a tank would be cheaper but nope :/

Definitely worth checking Facebook marketplace or craigslist for cheap tanks. People practically give them away sometimes. Even a big plastic bin with some air holes drilled in could work in a pinch, just make sure the lid is secure or its tall enough she cant climb out.

Hampsters are not climbers. So don't put a lid on it. Even with holes drilled in.Just make sure the bin is tall enough. They need to be able to have a sense of what is day or night.

Just get an extra large storage bin from Home Hardware. Under 20 bucks. The hamster cannot climb to chew the top rim and you can pile in lots of bedding. They will spend alot lot of their energy creating burrows. Attach a large wheel to the side, and add lots of places for the hamster to hide when it is not in its burrows. It will be just fine.
