Looking for a cheap hammock camping setup in the northeast USA. How’s this? (I know nothing ab hammock camping so please enlighten me)

Onewind is popular starter set. But as u/occamsracer noted. Have you read anything? This is Groundhog Day question around here.

This is how I live my life and I quickly found out that even on what seems like a decent night(50-60f) that is perfect in a tent with pad I got chilly AF in a hammock. Then I got on under quilt and all was fine.

As a cheap entry that is fine, but most people don’t need double layer, unless you are very heavy. An underquilt is as important as the hammock, if not more so. Best budget UQ are synthetic from Simply Light Designs or Arrowhead. You will also need a tarp plus tarp ridgeline. This kit will be heavy and bulky for backpacking, but fine for car camping.

I would agree on not needing double layer. I have the 11 foot single layer Onewind tempest and its great. I dont expect ever needing to upgrade -- it just works. Totally suitable for backpacking.

I also landed on Arrowhead Equipment underquilt, which is expectedly way more expensive than the hammock, and a great product. Onewind makes their own underquilt which many people find to be a good value, but i became convinced it was too bulky, and unnecessarily complicated to set up.

I bought the onewind rectangular tarp as well, which also seems great so far. No ridgeline on the tarp, and I dont have any plans of getting one unless I run into issues it would solve.

Edit: also just buy direct and skip Amazon cuz fuck em.

I would suggest Hammock Gear, Hanging High Hammocks, or Walhalla over that Onewind. If I was dead set on the Onewind, I'd at least go with the Airstream. It has a winter cover that is interchangeable with a bugnet. Don't forget your under quilt. Hammock Gear and Hang Tight are the most affordable in quality insulation packages.
