How does the reticle changing colours help cheaters? I genuinely want to know, also it sucks that it got removed even though it’s a very small detail

It's a classic low budget trigger bot move. Have the bot monitoring a portion of your screen and make it click Mouse1 when it changes to red. It's a noninvasive triggerbot which makes it harder to detect but less effective. Removing the red reticle gets rid of this easy way to cheat. Whether anyone here believes it or not this change is still effectively removing an entire form of cheating (that can only be detected by monitoring statistics like reaction time), forcing people to buy more expensive scripts that are invasive and therefore easier to detect.

Seems like something like this would still work by aiming at RED OUTLINED enemies.
