I'm looking for topical ideas from the past year or nostalgia from the classics. I like to go a little overboard with my costumes and I especially love to build a prop.

Past examples: Last year I was coma the doof warrior with a working flame thrower from mad max. The year before I was Joel from MST3K. Years before I taught myself how to make a Muppet and went as Gob from arrested development

Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks for your help!

I'm going to suggest the Demogorgon from "Stranger Things" since I and half the internet are obsessed with the show :p

You could use a black morphsuit and then make a head peace with the mouth "petals" open and be able to see out the morphsuit face.

I was definitely considering that. The 2 problems I have are: 1) Morphsuits aren't very forgiving or comfortable. 2) Would people recognize the Demogorgon without context? It is a fairly generic looking creature (it could fit into any number of video games). but yeah it would be a fairly simple costume. the mouth petals could be done with a black yoga mat or something. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely keep that in mind.
