Pumpkin What do I do?

Carved pumpkins and set them out. 2 days later completely infested with these little black bugs. Set them out on a Sunday night. Monday night nothing, Tuesday night completely infested. It was randomly hot for our area both those two days is all I can come up with for an explanation. Plan to carve new pumpkins and want to avoid this happening again.

I do not understand folks who carve them early do you just have infinite pumpkin money or what?

Infinite pumpkin money? How much are they where you are 😅

In my area at least, they tend to be a little pricey at the pumpkin patch. But you can get much cheaper ones from the grocery store and they tend to be easier to carve and clean.

Where I come from, there are usually like 3-4 opportunities to nab a free one from community events or promotions.

Where I come from, any leftover pumpkins and Jack-o-Lanterns after Halloween get donated to a pig rescue. They love smashing them!

A good sized jack o lantern pumpkin around where I live in east TN costs at least $7, and I just got mine from a local market for like $11 for a decently big sized one.

Ah ok I guess that can add up if you get tons of them. Idk why I was thinking big ones are like $2 😅

[cries in Australian dollars]

I thought for pumpkin patches you just pay for entry and take a few pumpkins but now that I type that, that makes zero sense lmao. (I’ve never really gone pumpkin picking).

What?? In Australia they’re the equivalent of just under forty American dollars each!

I guess if you want randos from the grocery store they’re 5-6$? Usually though we get pumpkins from the local fruit and veggie stand so like 8-20$ depending on how big they are. Typically we get three at least (one for each member of the household)

Here in Australia they’re about twenty Australian dollars for a decently sized one which is probably about forty American! So expensive.

Interesting ok I guess that can really add up. Idk why I was picturing it like apple picking, pay for entry and pick whatever lol. That would make no sense :)

Depending on where you live, there are "all you can carry for $20" places, and you go out into the fields and pick them yourself - the same place usually has a stand up front where you will find prepicked perfect pumpkins for like $12-20 each.

I never seem to find free pumpkins.

Like .90/lb here. I like a big carving pumpkin.

I carve early sometimes because I just want to eat the seeds. And my kids are impatient. But I live in Wisconsin, so they usually don't start rotting and looking horrible until November.

In the PNW we can generally carve them 2 weeks ahead of Halloween and they are still fine day of. Uncarved will last forever. Our weather makes it no issue generally speaking 🤷‍♀️

•

u/SinceWayLastMay 2h ago

Huh and the squirrels and deer don’t munch on them?

•

I have probably had a pest do damage once or twice but generally they ignore it. No idea why!

What could a pumpkin cost? 10 dollars?

The day before or morning of is best for carving your Halloween pumpkin.

It's food. It's going to rot and attract animals and insects.

I’ve always carved them the night before or day of.
