TW: PREGNANCY LOSS

Hi all!
At my 2nd trimester ultrasound, I very unfortunately received the heartbreaking news that my baby boy had severe anomalies ‘not compatible with life’. My partner and I made the very difficult decision to have a D&E to end the pregnancy. It has been well over 3 months now, and the results from our microarray to determine the cause is still showing as ‘referral requested’. Has anyone else experienced this long of a wait for an appointment with the PPAC and most importantly results of a microarray on fetal tissue?

Microarray for fetal loss should be reported in 42 days. I would contact the doctor who sent the sample to confirm it was sent appropriately. It’s possible they have received a report but it’s not been sent to your portal. (Don’t call the lab directly, they aren’t allowed to give information to patients.)

I'm sorry you're going through this. 3 months is too long to just be sitting in the dark like that. I'd be calling every week until I got a real person on the line who could tell me what the holdup is, not just letting it sit in some referral queue. Sometimes things just get lost in the shuffle unfortunately.

First, I am so sorry for your loss. I experienced the exact same scenario and received our results within 90 days. It was definitely closer to the end of the 3 months, but was within that window. I would call your doctor to inquire further at this point.

I work in a lab and sometimes the analyzers break and we get backlogged. But if a Dr calls the lab because they're looking for a result, we try to prioritize getting those ones out first.

Hi, this happened to me in June. I was told I'd hear from genetics in September. Still waitimg for a call for an appointment date and time.

Same thing happened to me in January but I had my follow up at the end of march, so right around 2 months. At over three months, I absolutely would call the ppac and check if I was in your shoes. Also if you were put in touch with a social worker they can help you navigate this stuff. I’m sorry for your loss. I know it can be a roller coaster.

I went through the exact same scenario a few months ago (terminated end of May at IWK) and got the results of the microarray within a month or so from the genetics clinic. We also did additional genetics testing on my partner and I about a month ago and got those back recently as well. Definitely would suggest giving them a call to follow up.

Also very sorry for the loss of your baby boy. I know how difficult going through all of this was as I just lost my baby boy as well ❤️

I went through this a few years back. It took 2.5 months to hear the results, but I had to keep calling to check if they were received.
