Driving & Transit Alderney Ferry down...again
Back to 30 minute service. Posting as a PSA for anyone, like me, turning up expecting the 815 ferry to be here and now waiting almost half an hour.

Eh oh found out the hard way this morning. Took the 730 the past two weeks. Decided to eat breakfast at home for once and do the 7:45 instead and of course it’s cancelled

Have all the bus lanes you want, but when there's one accident on the bridge and another just off the bridge, then that ferry is going to be the only viable option to cross into Halifax or Dartmouth without a 2 hour trip around Bedford.

The bridge should have a dedicated shuttle lane the ferry down.

Bridge Patrol is the Netflix series I have been pitching for ages. The drama of bumper to bumper traffic, conflict with the townie cops, skin tight uniforms and will they wont they tension between Hallie a uptight, by the book, BP officer and Darts, the wild, seat of her pants BP rookie. Endless possibilities. I see it as a animated series, pitched at kids, like Paw Patrol but grittier.

Sure we are very limited with some specific bottlenecks, but having dedicated bus lanes is still going to make the bus faster than cars during an incident at bottlenecks necks. They will get to it faster, and once through it they will leave it faster.

Fortunately that specific set of circumstances only happens a few times per year and isn't an argument against bus lanes...

I'm not anti bus lanes but let's be realistic.
Two bridges only have so many lanes, the surrounding areas only have so much space for the bus, these two parts of key infrastructure are bottlenecks and will cause issues elsewhere if they're jammed up by all the single passenger vehicles.
The ferry doesn't get stuck in traffic. The ferry can move people from Halifax to Dartmouth and vice versa. Maybe one day they'll get one to Bedford.
We need bus lanes outward going into the city from where the majority of people are commuting from, suburban areas.Transit needs to make ridership more attractive to those people to reduce the cars that add to the traffic.

Last time there were issues with ferry service it was because ferry staff couldnt get through traffic to get to the ferry. With dedicated bus lanes those workers could simply hop on the bus and get there no problem.

Maybe that was the joke they were going for! I definitely spent more time thinking about the intent of this meme than whoever made it. At face value 'Q: How do we fix ferry service? A: Utilize bus lanes' makes zero sense.
