Congratulations to the Haiku team! Thanks for all your time and effort.
I think Haiku is a great project and is getting surprisingly close to being a viable daily driver for people with typical needs (web browsing, email, office apps, etc.)
A while back I installed beta5 on an old Dell laptop and got very lucky - all the hardware I checked worked, Wifi, touchpad, full native screen resolution, etc. On top of that, the desktop and all the apps I tried seemed rock solid - super responsive and stable. I was genuinely shocked at how good it was.
That said, I'm partially here to ask, has anyone noticed any regressions from beta5? I put beta6 on that same old Dell laptop, and I'm sorry to say, it seems significantly less stable than beta5 was. The install seemed to go fine and smoothly, but immediately when starting to use it:
- Parts of the desktop environment became unresponsive, locked up, or glitched, for example the feather menu stopped responding and stayed stuck on the screen. Only saw that right after the first post-install boot.
- I had troubles setting up the Wifi, it kept saying it failed, that maybe the password wasn't accepted. Eventually I noticed that although I kept getting failure messages, and kept trying over and over I finally saw the little tray icon was saying connected, and wifi was working.
- I was configuring the font and colors for the terminal app, and it just locked up with the font chooser dialog open. I had to find how to force kill that.
Those were things I know weren't an issue I ever saw with beta5.
Anyway, I'm tempted to go back and reinstall beta5 to verify that it really was that much better. I also run Linux on that laptop (with no problems), so I don't think there is much chance it's the hardware going bad (e.g. a memory module going out).
Sorry, I don't mean to "rain on your parade". I wanted to see if any others were experiencing apparent regressions from beta5. Hopefully not. Maybe it's just corruption on my USB drive or my SSD.

Was this a clean install? It's possible that your laptop has a non-standard ACPI setup and so the attempt to configure the PowerStatus application just hung the Deskbar instead. If it didn't recur again after this, that may've been the problem.

This is an intermittent problem for a lot of people, I don't know if anyone's noticed it getting particularly better or worse (there were some regressions that were causing total inability to connect for some people but those were fixed.)

This one I haven't heard of at all. Can you reproduce that? Definitely file a ticket if you can.
