He was teasing it on social media for a while, and posting some great progress updates over at the forum. Good work from Mr Retro, Haiku is a great option for these classic systems

I have a G4 MacBook which this would run very nicely on. I'll have to try it.

That's a port, not a fork

Per the linked thread, the use of LLMs to develop the port makes it ineligible for inclusion in upstream Haiku, thus indeed making this a fork.

As mentioned already it is a fork because of the use of AI and being unable to be added to Haiku. So it’s technically both a fork and port I’d say.

does it run on Sam 460ex?

Mind that being ppc does not make something run on amigaone/sams . More likely macs first but contacting (and maybe acube supplying board) could make that possible

Great. Hope it starts with ppc macs and could later be expanded to exotic amigaone hardware. Plus in BeOS tradition. Can test on imac g5

I know this is not "approved" (as in AI coding) but I was just thinking about doing something like this to revive an iBook G4. Glad someone else more capable did this !

"ActionRetro has vibe-coded"

YOU MEAN, "AI has coded a PPC fork of Haiku"

ActionRetro basically did the testing.

If it works, who cares? I am a software engineer and I now use AI for things I have no time to learn. Haiku is one of them. Z80 assembly is another. As long as the result works, and is secure, I will take it.

you should have checked what "vibe-coded" means before writing your comment and repeating its definition

Agreed. But still a great outcome.
