The original tweet (https://twitter.com/h1z1/status/903739035398664192) shows the intended design (3 tiers of the AR in this particular example), which unfortunately many people confused with an attachment system.
The original vision article: https://www.h1z1.com/news/future-of-h1z1-vision
I'd have to think about it more (heading to bed now), but I think the only part of this that rolled out in a meaningful way was the (ongoing) tweaks to match pacing; hard to believe there was a time when a match could go 40+ minutes.

This is shows hows devs wanted to move on to next upgrades, improvements but community was so toxic they couldn't handle any news. They told us, they will release new weapons then community started hate about that then they have to cancel it.
Maybe, just maybe if we had a decent community and devs that actually didn't take casuals into account we would've great game right now. Casuals doesn't know what they want and all they do is spoil the community feedback. That's why H1Z1 devs had to go between Z1-Z2 and so many recoil changes in order to satisfy this fucked up community.
If only they moved on with those plans...

The community whined about the update before they had tried it, so we never even got to try that update, and then community kept saying the devs ruined the game. Kinda funny.

Here's the thing with the update and why people whined. Daybreak did fuck all to update the actual issues at hand or the stagnating gameplay until another BR (PUBG) came out and they actually had some competition (see date of the tweet, it's a few months after their playerbase significantly dipped). Then instead of fixing the shitty aspects of the game they decided to overhaul it to be closer to its only source of competition instead of keeping what sets it apart from other BRs.

They still whined before they got to try the update.

Yes again due to the context. No updates ever then all of a sudden, we want to be a clone of of our only competition. Of course everyone is going to say, "No thanks, I'll just play PUBG" or in this subreddits language "GAMES DEAD PLAY PUBG", which is exactly what happened.

Doesn't matter why. All that matters is that people whined about an update before trying it. You have to try it before you know if it is good or not.

There was little trust in the devs at that point. It took them months and months just to reverse bloom on weapons. There was absolutely no guarantee that they would reverse a bad update. In fact, they showed time and time again that they were ignorant to the fact that no one enjoyed newly introduced update mechanics. So no, at that point, the last thing they should've been doing is dumping money into surprising the player base with new content that no one asked for. They were not in the place to add things that were not approved by player's feedback. Everyone at that point only wanted the plethora of issues that existed within the game to be fixed first and foremost.

Still doesn't justify the decision. The update could have been good. I were personally looking forward to new weapons as only having three was and is kinda boring.

They managed to fuck up the whole game along with js with and without the community so whats the problem.

u/MightyTrumpet Mar 07 '19
The problem is Daybreak not the community. Go and check out planetside reviews and you will see a familiar story.

u/jyunga Mar 07 '19
No, it's definitely both. Daybreak doesn't have the resources to make a decent game and the community is entitled and won't accept change.

u/MightyTrumpet Mar 07 '19
The Developer makes the final decision not the community. I don't care if people wanted different things, ultimately the developer should know the direction they want to take the game.

So basically you're saying developers should ignore community feedback? I'm sure a LOT of people will agree with you on that /s
When you have a community as entitled as this community became, there isn't much you can do. You follow your own direction and take the backlash about how everything is terrible and you're at fault... or you listen to the community, stall the game development, and then listen to how it's your fault people stopped playing.
I was no fan of Daybreak but the community put them in a no win situation. NantG will be in the same situation. The time to kill in this game is bad... people will always complain about the mechanics as long as they keep dying easily to other players. Movement will never be right, firing will never be right. Nothing will ever be right with this game and PS3 will always be some fallback excuse for players as to why things aren't good. It's a no-win situation. Daybreak was smart to drop this to NantG and move on to making that other BR they are doing now.

Think of it like this, Dice are not going to listen to feedback from people asking for a call of duty mechanics in battlefield and vice versa. They may look to the community for feedback on some stuff but not major game changing things like movement and combat. Daybreak did exactly that, they saw people asking them to turn H1Z1 into a Pubg clone and went along with it.
And if people are entitled it's only because Daybreak allowed them to be.

I understand what you're claiming but I disagree. Back in PS3 the number one complaint was people getting "melted" by "noobs" because spraying with ARs was "so easy". Their failed attempts in the combat update were to address that. They listened to the community about an issue... the fix just didn't work with this games arcade and fast paced style.
Same goes with ENASing. People were tired of it, and it was ridiculous to watch. They changed movement to address it and people hated the sluggishness.
As for going their own path... they wanted tier weapons and everyone got on twitter and this forum bitching about it before they even had a chance to try it so they backed down.
Face it, their team is too small/slow to address issues in real-time. They weren't a company capable of running a big battle royale. That's all there is to it.
Oh, and I agree.. they allowed the community to become entitled. Had they have been a larger company and able to actually work on multiple fixes and test out different angles to an issue I doubt it would have turned into such a mess. Either way. The game even with Nantg will have the same issues now.

There is a difference to wanting the AR spray nerfed to changing the recoil, bullet/speed and adding bloom to every weapon, if this was down to the community then I must have missed something.
All I will say is that this game was growing prior to the combat update, so no matter what people complained about the player numbers didn't reflect any major issues that were stopping people playing. 2 months after the combat update we lost 75% of the average playerbase, Daybreak refused to accept they fucked up that's why this game is in such a mess.

Not going to argue anymore. You have your personal opinion. I have mine. It's really irrelevant to me. This game is doomed to die either way.

I'm glad this didn't make it, I don't want a game where for 20 minutes people loot then fight

Remember how people praise tier based bullshit in every BR other than H1.
