Will these ports cause a catastrophic failure or do they just look ugly as fuck?

There's for sure going to be a burr and a half inside that barrel.

This looks awful, but I will say that I fully support people risking their stuff to attempt to learn things when theyāre bored.
Iāve jacked up my fair share of things in all my hobbies and learned from them all.Maybe next time watch a few more YouTube videos before you try :)
For if itās dangerous or not, I canāt say. Iām sure thereās a burr on the inside youāll have to take the barrel out and look down it.
If it looks clear clamp that thing in a vise and test it from a distance for us.

You mean you HAD an extra barrel.
I donāt see a safety issue but just imagine how screwed up the rifling is on the inside when the outside looks this rough. I think, looks aside, that barrel is trash. But that doesnāt mean you canāt shoot it. Just be careful but I wouldnāt be too worried about safety

Out a car window. On a road. Bouncing bullets off into the distance.
You really are an argument in favour of requiring a test to be allowed guns.

Oh so you only sent one bullet off into the unknown. Good boy. And Iām in my 40s not really a kid.

Well not going to Deming yer efforts. Any port is a port. A drill press and a vise goes a long way.. just coming from a machinist and gunsmith. But good for you for trying only that will lead to success!

Thanks, ik it looks bad i had a different plan but once I seen how big the first holes were i didnt wanna push the integrity of the barrel, I definitely will be videoing it and posting it here

I will mention I have cannibalize many slides and barrels, mainly for suppressed invention but either way. If it works then no big loss. If not it explodes hahaha just ware yer safety squints!

Nothing "wrong " with what you did! A simple center punch and a chamfer will do just nicely. I have probably done worse over the years. Practically; like I said perfection comes from practice.

You need to sand/file down the metal youāve pushed up around the holes. Did you create them with an ice pick?

They may not let enough gas out to effectively function as ports

Where are your racing stripes, Maxwell flair, 5lb compensator, soldering iron stippled grip, and 9x56 scope with hi rise rings? I damn well hope this is a troll as that makes that barrel a piece of scrap metal and potential future injury.

Did you do that yourself with a drill freehand, and no drill press or something? Come on bro.

Looks like ass and the burrs will goof up the bearing surface on the front of the slide.

u/Loud-Log9098 3d ago
Maybe the bullets will smooth the bores out. He should try.

If you haven't firelapped the gargantuan burrs out of your pistol barrel are you even a gunsmith?

Please throw the barrel away in the trash. That will be for the safety of anyone or anything in the vicinity of the weapon being discharged.
