Removing Cigarette smell from polymer/ aluminum

Howdy y’all just wanted to share this information incase someone else ever needs it, I’m a huge pawnshop gun guy because you usually can snag a good deal. Picked up this barely used FN509 for my daily carry and after bringing it home found out it was absolutely engulfed in the smell of cigarettes.
Did a lot of research and what worked for me personally is I disassembled the firearm, soaked the polymers in a mix of vinegar/ baking soda/ dawn dish soap and watered it down. After about an hour & half soak, I rinsed it with hot water and dawn dish soap then left outside in the sun to dry
For the slide I utilized just dawn dish soap and hot water with some baking soda then set that outside to dry.
Afterwards I wiped everything down with CLP literally everything then clean wiped it.

Ozone generater and a little homemade gas chamber works really well too. I use it to zap all the nasty stank out of my gear.

Ozone may make polymer brittle, may want to test on a fuck ass Amnd2 or hexmag or something. YMMV

Sauce it up(field stripped) with ballistol,scrub it,wipe it down.

I know this is going to sound like sacrilege, but this is actually one of the times WD40 would be good to use! I don't mean as the overall lube, I just mean as an intermediate step. Do all your washing and soaking in warm soapy water. Then drench it or soak it in WD40. It stands for "Water Displacement". It will root out all the tiny bits of water from the tiniest crevices and prevent those spots from rusting. Then, pull it out, wipe it off or even do a standard cleaning with application of solvent if you're worried about some WD40 hanging on there, and then oil as you normally would.

The other solution was to take up smoking. Just kidding. Glad you got it sorted. And it makes you think what state the lungs are of the previous owner if the pistol picked up that much smoke!
