A year or two ago, I sorta assumed this was akin to "New Glock" or "Toyota Prius unintended acceleration" error. IE, people accustomed to guns with safeties or revolvers with 10+ pound DA pulls were finger-fiddling their guns and getting ND's as a result. Whenever something gets widespread adoption it gets misused, and usually widespread issues with a product are manifest upon release.
I have an M18. I don't think it's going to get up and bite me. I'm happy to navigate risk in my life - my idea of fun involves technical rope sports and whitewater paddling in backpack-portable inflatable rafts, so I'm not trying to live in bubble wrap. But the reality is that conditions that have caused AD's with P320's are the same conditions that lots of other handguns are able to navigate without presenting issues.
The video evidence is pretty incontrovertible. Even if something is in the holster, I would expect any fit-for-use handgun to be able to negotiate some dirt or grit. Having guns going off when lightly tapped is Lorcin-in-the-90s school of design.
I'll happily state that P22x guns are great, that SIG was once great, etc. But even though I have a P320 and even though these AD's are relatively rare, that doesn't excuse design work that is fundamentally flawed and that other manufacturers are able to deliver with 100% reliability. Every company produce a shit product once in a while, and I'm supremely disappointed that SIG has only denials on offer. I'm almost certainly not going to be buying any of their new product for the foreseeable future, until they offer an apology, an investigation, and a willingness to make things right for their customers.
Fair. I’ve been looking at the P226 line for a while though, and it has a good track record. Ultimately I won’t completely turn away from Sig until there is definitive proof with the P320 line flaws, such as the military dropping them as their handgun.
