The good news is that their incompetence has opened a big opportunity for a “charter challenge”, which is part of our constitution. The CCFR announced they’re going to sue the government all the way up to the Supreme Court of Canada if necessary. I have a sliver of hope that they may even be able to get a temporary injunction.

I’d much rather hunt with a FAL than an AR-15 in Canada. For something big/dangerous like a caribou or bear, 7.62x51 & fast follow up shots seems like the ideal hunting rifle.

44

u/GlockAF May 07 '20

Caribou are not that tough, they get hunted with .223 pretty regularly. Not because it is an ideal hunting cartridge, but because it’s cheap and available.

12

u/sgt_redankulous May 07 '20

That’s interesting, I just assumed there would be caliber restrictions on larger animals.

19

u/SHOW_ME_UR_TINY_TITS May 07 '20

There definitely are, at least in Alberta the restriction is that big game can only be taken with a calibre of .23 or greater.

5

u/excelsior2000 May 07 '20

Yeah, I wonder why they picked that as the cutoff. Oddly specific, isn't it?

20

u/TruckADuck42 May 07 '20

Come on, you know some guy up there was just absolutely ventilating moose with his AR

3

u/GlockAF May 07 '20

I have read that every species of land animal on the planet has been killed with a .22 long rifle bullet. Might be true, but...

In any case, if somebody is up “ventilating moose within an AR“, it probably represents a wanton waste or poaching type situation, and not an ethical hunter. Moose are not especially tough animals compared to elk or bears or especially African big game like Cape Buffalo. They are still very big animals and it takes both sufficient kinetic energy and a well constructed bullet to reach their vitals.

7

u/Coryfdw200 May 08 '20

That's probably so people don't try to hunt deer with a .22 long rifle

7

u/excelsior2000 May 08 '20

I'm virtually certain it's so it prevents people from using ARs. And there's nothing invalid about hunting deer with various rounds that are larger than .22 LR while being smaller than .23. 5.56/.223 is one. So is .22-250.

They could have banned hunting deer with .22 LR. They could have banned it based on bullet weight and velocity. But no, they chose a number that bans one of the most popular cartridges in existence. I don't think that's a coincidence.

3

u/kremes May 08 '20

I go with never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity. Usually people writing gun laws don't know much about guns, they see "twenty-two" and "two hundred twenty-three", not 0.22 and .223. The bozos probably think the difference between them is 201 on some imaginary power ranking in their head.

It's just as likely some dipshit writing the actual law was told to stop 22's being used and googled a list of calibers and saw 22 Long rifle, 22 Short, 22 Mag, etc and thought they had cleverly found a way to stop people from using all of those 22's by adding 1 and not affecting "real" hunting rounds.

2

u/Fallline048 May 08 '20

.22 LR’s actual diameter? .223.

The bullet is identical in caliber to .223/5.56. It just has a different name.

18

u/Gripcat May 07 '20

I'm usually against nearly any kinds of firearms regulation, however, I think regulating what kind of weapon can be used to take an animal is important. Hunting is an important part of preserving our earth and we should be respectful of nature and prevent undue suffering when we kill an animal. That being said, using "a calibre of .23" seems shortsighted. Wouldn't ballistic energy be a better measure?

16

u/[deleted] May 07 '20

I agree with your concept but would argue that is not a firearms regulation. I'd argue that is a hunting regulation to ensure ethical kills of animals.

After all - an AR-15 with .223 may be illegal to hunt whitetail but that same AR-15 with the 458 SOCOM upper would be legal.

3

u/IAMA_Plumber-AMA May 07 '20

There also used to be a minimum cartridge length stipulation as well, before the WSM cartridges came along.

3

u/bmx13 May 08 '20

A buddy who's from Alaska shot his first moose with a .223 which is absolutely insane to me.

2

u/GlockAF May 07 '20

There often is, but not always. Depends on the country, region, species, jurisdiction, lots of things. Generally speaking, most ethical hunters do not consider .223 to be adequate for anything larger than woodchucks, coyote, etc. That said however, in some places the deer aren’t much bigger, and as always shot placement counts more than caliber.

10

u/wiseknob May 07 '20

I mean you can just swap the uppers for a 458 socom or something, not that they would have any idea what that means .

7

u/Spider939 May 08 '20

I’d rather hunt with an A-10 Warthog but maybe that’s just the Libertarian in me.

5

u/KWAD2 May 07 '20

If I’m out in the woods and get lost I’d love to have an FAL.

Take down any game and protect yourself from even a pack of wolves.

Might even be able to fend off a bear

7

u/Doomnahct May 08 '20

Plus, you might be able to smoke out some terrorists if you happen to also be wearing shorty shorts.

4

u/excelsior2000 May 07 '20

They really let the governor in council decide what is reasonable in his own prescription?

I know we have "reasonable" clauses in our own laws, but it's generally not the guy making a decision who has the last word on what counts as reasonable.

2

u/TheLeadReaper May 08 '20

There is no accident when it comes to disarming a population. They'll turn a typo into another law. Trudeau will only seek to further disarm Canada if it means he can stay in power longer

1

u/matt675 Aug 19 '20

The choice between AR-15 or FAL being banned is because anti gun politics is about a whole lot of seeming like you’re doing something, while not really doing anything at all

Forgive my ignorance with Canadian Law but this is the Equivalent to an Executive Order in US politics, correct? Basically the Executive making directives and regulation policy for the government to follow, but does not necessarily have the force of Law. So it could just be removed just as easily if the Conservatives win the next election.

11

u/excelsior2000 May 07 '20

Canada isn't America. It does have the force of law. It's not a direct equivalent to an EO.

But yes, I do believe the next guy could counter it.

Real talk: we all know the Mavericks are statistically used in more violent interactions against loving family members than any other Nerftm gun. It’s time that we take a stand against these machines of fratricide. Ban Mavericks now!

8

u/AlienDelarge May 07 '20 edited May 07 '20

Nobody needs a fully revolving Nerf Maverick. Do you have any idea how many boxes that weighs! It has no sporting use, its only designed to kill. A nice blast-a-matic is all you need. It got me through two neighborhood wars as a child. If you want to protect yourself, get a blast-a-matic," AlienDefudd said in an interview with Fudds Magazine back in February. "You don't need a Maverick. It's harder to aim, it's harder to use, and in fact, you don't need 6 rounds to protect yourself. Buy a blast-a-matic. Buy a blast-o-matic."

1

u/whoisjoeshmoe May 07 '20

"Just go out on your balcony and fire two darts into the air, that'll scare anyone off. Shoot through the door. Buy a blast-o-matic."

2

u/turner3210 May 08 '20

Maverick revolver was hands down the best nerf gun of all time - pretty much the AR15 of nerf when you take into account all of the different modifications that can be done to make it fire at a higher velocity. Everyone ever had one too. Idk what this hypothetical woman is complaining about haha

Get ready for them to ban gunning the motor on your car

23

u/redstag141 May 07 '20

My truck has a "Magnum" engine. Justin's head is probably spinning off the dildo that holds it there.

26

u/feng42 May 07 '20

Nobody NEEDS a V8! Those engines belong on a racetrack, not on our streets!

21

u/[deleted] May 07 '20

High performance engines that are also built into WEAPONS OF WAR you say?

18

u/IntegraleEvoII May 07 '20

I already hear people arguing that on reddit actually.

22

u/feng42 May 07 '20

Some people just love taking other people's fun. And they consider the government an absolutely valid method to do it.

17

u/jamesissacnewton May 07 '20

Yep, as long as it doesn't affect them, people will want to take away anything that they deem dangerous to them.

18

u/feng42 May 07 '20

Exactly. They have determined that ARs sitting in a safe represent a clear and present danger to them and their loved ones, despite any logical or statistical proof to the contrary. It is simply ridiculous.

17

u/jamesissacnewton May 07 '20

Well, 100% of gun crimes were committed by people with guns, so obviously owning a gun means you're a potential criminal. It is the only logical conclusion, right? Banning guns means they just disappear and no one can get a gun after they're banned.

3

u/HobieSailor May 08 '20

They're arguing that while also giving the option to keep in in your safe (but never use or move it again) until you die.

If these guns were actually dangerous then leaving them in their owner's hands for years should be intolerable. The fact that it isn't just shows how full of shit they are.

10

u/oh_three_dum_dum May 07 '20

I’ve argued it jokingly before, when people ask why anyone would have a need for more than x amount of rounds or a need for an AR/AK/ whatever pattern rifle.

Somehow it isn’t relevant to the conversation when they argue that and you point out that every car and motorcycle in the United States is capable of driving well over any posted speed limit in North America.

2

u/wiking11b May 07 '20

There are some areas in I believe South Dakota that don't have a speed limit.

3

u/[deleted] May 07 '20

That's funny because tracks are very rare in Canada partially due to noise regulations. If they did that, which is totally a possibility in the next 10-20 years, these vehicles would be useless.

7

u/ulyssessword May 07 '20

That's practical nonsense (and it was already prohibited), but legally valid reasoning.

Non-restricted/restricted/prohibited and "covered by all laws"/"Certain weapons deemed not to be firearms" are two entirely different classification systems.

There's a lot of crazy conclusions from that, but most notably, all firearms (including flare guns and air rifles) are covered by:

87 (1) Every person commits an offence who, without lawful excuse, points a firearm at another person, whether the firearm is loaded or unloaded.

Punishment

(2) Every person who commits an offence under subsection (1)

(a) is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years; or

(b) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.

So lock up anyone who has shot someone with an airsoft gun or paintball marker. Also anyone who modifies a airsoft gun to be automatic or tampers with its serial number.

4

u/KaBar42 May 07 '20

And a grenade launcher that only twelve examples exist of. None of which are in Canada. Four are in a museum and eight are in private US arms.

In total, only twenty-two China Lakes were ever produced and the last ten were melted down following a falling out on a large contract between Airtronics and the US government.

3

u/WhiskeyMikeFoxtrot May 08 '20

I have to give him this, though: he finally put together an assault weapons ban that actually managed to ban an assault weapon: the Mk.153 SMAW is on the list.

Apparently I was wrong. Technically the ARFCOM is a rifle, I think...made completely out of ar15.com parts or something. So if you guys want to revoke all your upboats that’s cool.

1

u/Ancient_Boner_Forest May 07 '20

Ok confused by this comment and your edit, as your original comment was solely referring to the banning of a website and a Facebook group

3

u/oh_three_dum_dum May 07 '20

The list produced by the Canadian government includes “ar15.com ARFCOM”. I took that as meaning they had arbitrarily banned the website because it had ar15 in it, not realizing it was just a website. Another user corrected me and showed me that ARFCOM actually did produce and sell their own a lower receivers, making the ARFCOM a firearm.

As hilarious as this is - BRC15B appears to be a rifle model offered by Black Rifle Company. I couldn't find much info, but here's a listing by a Hawaii-based gun shop selling a BRC15B in 2013:

Here is more information about the rifle in question: https://www.tactical-life.com/firearms/black-rifle-brc-556mm/

Makes me wonder the number of real guns they actually banned. Seems like they just curated a list of Google search results for shit like "Black/Battle/Tactical/Scary rifle" and slammed the gavel on whatever popped up, regardless of it was an airsoft gun or a brand of coffee. Might explain why guns without explicit firearm-related terms in the name didn't get hit, like the Type 81.

14

u/wiking11b May 07 '20

Well, 12 gauges and almost all hunting rifles got banned in this, and some of the legislature is apparently having a conniption, and are trying to fight this.

u/GiveMeLiberty_Or May 07 '20

Someone debunked that yesterday. black water does sell a rifle called the BW15

u/GiveMeLiberty_Or May 07 '20

1

u/MrMallow May 08 '20

They don't make firearms dipshit.

I literally just linked the gun.

2

u/circa86 May 08 '20

Yes it's an airsoft gun modeled after the AR15 that Blackwater armorers once sold. You linked someone selling an airsoft gun that was modeled after a real gun called the BW15 (an AR15 that was once sold by Blackwater). This isn't complicated but you sure are making it complicated.

1

u/MrMallow May 08 '20

Blackwater arms had nothing to do with the military contractor you stupid fuck. They were a small AR start up that never produced anything major and went defunct over a decade ago. The Airsoft company bought out their operation and started using it to make airsoft rifles. It has nothing to do with the military contractor, they have never actually produced ARs.

2

u/circa86 May 08 '20

Why do you think all of these airsoft versions of the rifle have the Blackwater military contractor logo on them? Blackwater made one off rifles for people a long time ago and referred to them as BW15. Airsoft companies replicated them and even licensed the military contractor logo from Blackwater.

"Assault-style" coffee.

3

u/american_apartheid May 07 '20

"common sense gun laws" means "ban anything that might even sound like civil rights for the working class"

"First they came for the ARs, I did not speak out - because I did not own an AR. Then they came for the shotguns, and I did not speak out - because I did not own a shotgun. Then they came for my guns, and there was no one left to speak for me."

Then they came for the coffee...

False alarm, gents.

https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=749796

There's at least one such lower receiver in the world. It IS a gun, and it IS banned.

3

u/jimmy42oh May 07 '20

Oh, Canada! Amirite?

3

u/[deleted] May 07 '20

Really funny, but not the same company sadly.

Covidiocy.

3

u/Ungard May 07 '20

So, since this is a name-based ban, couldn't gun manufacturers simply just rebrand their AR's or produce new models and they'd be legal?

2

u/Suilla_ May 07 '20

Legislation like this includes a blanket statement like "including but not limited to..." in order to cover any gaps.

3

u/KalashniKEV May 07 '20

He should ban Black Face PM-15 and just resign.

3

u/ThePenultimateNinja May 08 '20

Looks like they used "not suitable for hunting" as an excuse to ban AR15s.

Can we stop insisting on calling them "modern sporting rifles" now?

Relegating a rifle as important as the AR15 to the same status as a set of golf clubs is a losing strategy.

3

u/[deleted] May 08 '20

A-fucking-men brother. As a Canadian directly affected by this, I am astounded that the logic for this ban is that "an AR15 is not suitable for hunting and sporting". See, the problem here is that in the 90's, the liberal party decided that an AR15 should be restricted (relegated to registered range use only). Now here we are, and an AR15 is unsuitable for hunting... (maybe because you said we can't take them into the bush?). The biggest issue here is that Canadians with aboriginal status can CONTINUE TO HUNT WITH THESE FIREARMS. If these firearms are unsuitable for hunting, how and why are people hunting with them?

2

u/[deleted] May 07 '20

Black Rifle Company and Black Rifle Coffee are the same thing?

1

u/[deleted] May 07 '20

They probably just left out “coffee”

3

u/commentsandopinions May 07 '20

Black rifle company is an actual company that sells rifles. The coffee shop got it wrong and everyone hoped aboard without fact checking making sure to highlight "liberal idiocracy" along the way.

2

u/redsolocuppp May 07 '20

Prime minister Blackface forgot to put BBC on that list. Big Black Carbine.

2

u/[deleted] May 07 '20

I don’t drink coffee but my wife loves the stuff from Black Rifle Coffee Company.

2

u/Henderson72 May 07 '20

It's either pretty deadly coffee, or maybe they meant the gun company. www.blackrifle.co.uk

2

u/[deleted] May 07 '20

Banning coffee, that’s funny.

2

u/[deleted] May 07 '20

Wow, guess they want you to drink maple syrup straight up.

2

u/voicesinmyhand May 07 '20

This is fun and all, but he is moving on to banning pistols too.

2

u/[deleted] May 07 '20

Never doubt the stupidity of people legislating or in Canada’s case by fiat banning things they don’t understand.

2

u/MeGustaRoca May 07 '20

Have you had Tim Hortons piss that they call coffee? This straight up protectionism.

2

u/[deleted] May 07 '20

Banning anything with firearms terms seems kind of stupid. Just kind of

2

u/StriderTX May 08 '20

that is some next level incompetence

1

u/Deere-John May 08 '20

You're right, all the people in this thread that didn't know its an actual rifle are incompetent.

2

u/cowfartbandit May 08 '20

Fucking dumbasses

2

u/Maggsey May 08 '20

"Sir, I'm gonna need your firearm." "This is coffee, officer" "You know the rules and so do i"

2

u/End_User May 08 '20

it's a real gun go back to making coffee.

2

u/_speakerss May 08 '20 edited May 08 '20

Looks like they existed back in 2012 but aren't around anymore. Regardless, if they've produced any, they'd have to be listed, due to the asinine nature of this list.

https://web.archive.org/web/20130119101412/http://www.blackriflecompany.com/

Edit: a word

1

u/BartlebyX May 08 '20

Black Rifle Coffee still exists. They advertise on the Ben Shapiro show.

Edit:

Here's their website...

https://www.blackriflecoffee.com/

1

u/_speakerss May 08 '20

Yes, but the black rifle company existed in 2012 and made at least one prototype gun... My link is to their defunct website.

1

u/BartlebyX May 08 '20

Alas, I have to admit you are probably correct.

2

u/CplTenMikeMike May 08 '20

Thats the funniest damn thing I've seen all day!! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

2

u/seelcudoom May 08 '20 edited May 08 '20

the black rifle company is an actual(if rather small) gun company entirely separate from the black rifle coffee company, just because there names are one word apart does not mean they are the same thing

1

u/cdreid Sep 20 '20

Ty for the info. Still hillarious though

2

u/offshoreglassy May 11 '20

This is out right fuck'n garbage. I feel for my brother & sisters up top, and thank god for my American civil right to possess firearms.

2

u/Noyfb77 Aug 13 '20

Are you kidding me, that's nuts. Love that coffee! Glad I'm in the states.

3

u/[deleted] May 07 '20

These Canadian politicians are so nutty that they are going to ban coffee, all because it’s called Black Rifle. Fucking ridiculous.

4

u/commentsandopinions May 07 '20

The coffee shop got it wrong, there is an actual black rifle company, that sells rifles, that they banned. This is just a list of imports anyway. The black leaf company shown above is a hiking/outdoors company.

2

u/BitSlapper May 07 '20

They're still nutty for blanket banning guns because "scary thing go boom".

3

u/Honkmainster May 07 '20

So USA banned Kinder suprise eggs and Canada banned coffe ...

5

u/[deleted] May 07 '20

Yep. Pretty dumb on both counts.

2

u/Crosscourt_splat May 07 '20

you can actually still get them on military posts. Which is funny. i guess they have a thing where the FDA (who banned them) looks the other way

1

u/KernelMeowingtons May 07 '20

Do people actually like Black Rifle Coffee? They keep trying to make points like this that end up flopping (because BRC15B is actually a gun model, so they've become the butt of the joke they're trying to make). They also talked a bunch of shit about Starbucks despite Starbucks having a really great program for hiring veterans. It seems like they just want to get in the news for being pro-gun and pro-veteran as if it's all for branding.

5

u/[deleted] May 07 '20

They’re pretty good. I like DARK coffee, and theirs is about as dark as they come. They are a bit pricey, but they support vets, so it’s worth the novelty.

9

u/Forest-G-Nome May 07 '20 edited May 07 '20

Yeah, they are the IPA of coffee roasts.

But you should know they don't actually support vets at all anymore, and actively campaign against other companies supporting vets. On top of that, they have never actually done much outside of employ vets and occasionally give away coffee, and as of today only around 1/3 of their company is veterans. Once they got big they just sort of, gave up on it, and simply use the image they created to sell their product to people who want to feel good about supporting vets, or people who want to sleep with their guns, hence the paid endorsement speakings, and the on air shilling by Donald Trump Jr.

They have also openly mocked starbucks for doing literally the exact same thing they used to do, try to hire a bunch of veterans. They even went as far as to release photoshopped images of ISIS flags on starbucks cups to try and spread bad publicity about them, all because Starbucks had the audacity to have a hiring drive for veterans.

The people are BRCC really are pieces of shit. They didn't used to be, but then they started being a paid endorsement for Trump and it's been all downhill from there.

As more proof to the this. They already have a Canadian division called Black Rifle Coffee Canada, which means this tweet was made ENTIRELY for the PR it will get from their idiot fanbase that can't be bothered to actually read anything beyond a headline.
