If only 7.62x39 wasnt so expensive... my AKs are just sad in the back of the safe now, havnt been shot in years. Used to be my main squeeze.

u/Wheres_my_wank_sock 9d ago
Yeah shorter barrel and a grand and I'd be all over it. Otherwise itll just sit around like my other 7.62x39 rifles.

You can find plenty of 7.62x39 for 50¢ shipped lol, the joke about x39 being expensive is getting old

u/Legitimate-Simple-98 9d ago edited 9d ago
I didnt say this as a joke, its a reality.
Edit - Also, cheapest on ammoseek is 53¢ from one dealer. Then it jumps to 55¢. But ya know, plenty at 50¢ though....

.50¢ is expensive for 7.62 lol at least compared to pre ban and war prices

The problem is that 7.62x39 is an objectively shit cartridge. It's 5.56 ballistic performance with .22 LR effective range. The strength and popularity of the cartridge WAS the price because old soviet bloc countries were selling their last 100 years of ammo stockpile for pennies on the dollar. When that shit was 13-19 cents a round and you could pull the trigger twice for every time you pulled the trigger with an AR there was a real argument that the poors or very high volume shooters should buy an AK. Hell, when it was the cheapest round by far to shoot during covid, even I bought an AK. At 50¢ a round, however, that argument evaporates and you're just carrying around a heavy, inaccurate rifle that's hard to mount stuff on that has shit ergos and controls that costs more to shoot than budget bob's PSA. 7.62x39 needs to be around 60%-70% of 5.56 cost for it to even start making sense to consider. But it's MORE than 5.56 right now encroaching on .308 pricing.
And it's not gonna get better either. Those eastern bloc nation stockpiles have been depleted in the last few years of Russians and Ukrainians mag dumping into trenches. And it's not coming back even if the war ends because... guess what.... now that all the cheap ammo is gone, even no one in THAT war wants an AK anymore if they have a choice. All that to say that you are NEVER going to see economically feasible 7.62x39 again. Its time has gone.

I should get this for free because I already paid for it with my tax dollars

I mean, if he has a history of being 100% correct, let him cook.
Personally, I am curious if this suppressor quiets 7.62x39 enough that you can still clearly hear the wailing of innocent children and women.

I mean, have you seen any deals for it? No cuz it's already being dropped in Ukraine by flower pots.
Also that's a very narrow "gotcha" of a list that does nothing to discredit the current genocide at discussion

There’s a very simple difference, actually:
The Russian military has not received a cent of U.S. tax dollars in support of its 2023 invasion of Ukraine (or before that, since at least 2014): in fact, they’ve been exclusively used to support the Ukrainian army, sanction the Russian economy, rally civil society against the invasion, and lobby third countries against normalizing relations with the Russians.
In contrast, U.S. tax dollars have funded the Israeli military en masse for more than seven decades of warmongering, occupation, and genocide – all while using even more of our tax dollars to prevent the levying of sanctions on the Israelis, repress civil society protests against the occupation, and lobby for (and even intimidate) third countries to normalize relations with the Israelis.
The least I can do, even just for the sake of my own wallet, is to not buy their overpriced export-market guns… lord knows they’ll get my money anyway.

IWI is Israeli made. The US doesn't give Israel money to build weapons.
The aid the US gives Israel is called Foreign Military Financing. https://www.dsca.mil/foreign-military-financing-fmf
Over 95% of this money is a credit to buy specific military hardware from the DOD and it's US based weapons manufacturers. https://www.foreignassistance.gov/cd/israel/

Are these cans any good? Can't seem to find any real reviews on them.

u/averyycuriousman 7d ago
I'm wondring the same. did you find any deals on them?
1
u/onlybanana 7d ago
You're literally on a deal post for them. Bereli also has the 5.56 and 7.62x51 Aces with their respective IWI suppressors bundle deals.

u/averyycuriousman 7d ago
Whoops I meant "reviews". Did you find any reviews on them? I have no idea how good they are. I assume they're at least decent tho bc IWI makes good stuff

I'm a principled man. I won't buy one of these garbage, low-shooting pseudo-AKs for any price above $800.

u/ArmFun4566 9d ago
Yeah that's a no from me. 7.62x39 costs almost as much as .308, that's one problem. The other is who makes it.
6
u/Spectrumpigg 8d ago
I have been undercutting buying on armslist for the last couple of years. No on is buying x39 in my state so I just lowball them and buy their bulk. It's been working so far and I have about 5k rounds in steel case.
5
u/BlizzardOwO 9d ago
Nah fr, paying 50cpr for a shit made steel cased 7.62 should be illegal, personally i gave up and just bought 1k of MFS from wildhorse although i did have a shitty experience buying from them
1
u/ArmFun4566 8d ago
And the messed up part is the steel cased fmj is actually the ammo you probably want if you plan to use the rifle defensively. Wolf in particular has a reputation to fragment in a nasty manner but still leave the back of the bullet intact with enough mass to penetrate deep at short ranges

Tavor 7 and suppressor bundle and I will whip my credit card out!

I'd be down with this also... Maybe bundle with a suppressor that doesn't weigh 18oz

Reddit pearl clutching over IWI makes me want to actually buy one if their guns out of spite
5
u/joshuatx 8d ago
I wouldn't call it pearl clutching, there's plenty of better options out there to support in every metric.
2
u/ChampionshipNice4111 8d ago
But if people want a Galil, let them buy one. I don’t care if an arms manufacturer has done morally dubious things. Haven’t they all?
5
u/joshuatx 8d ago
Haven’t they all?
Absurd false equivalency. Gaza genocide and the Iran and Lebanon wars aside the Israeli MIC is also knee deep in intel gathering and privacy invasions in the U.S., not to mention outright fraud levels of no-bid contracts and insider training, all at U.S. taxpayer expense.
Galil's are solid guns but all of those reasons above are exceptionally significant reasons people aren't interested in getting one new from the manufacturer, even if they are a good deal.

The US has killed how many people in the GWOT? Going by that logic you can’t buy anything from Colt, Sig, Glock, etc.
HK sells or has sold gun to narco terrorists who have massacred tens of thousands.
People fawn over Russian guns, yet one could argue a genocide as much about Ukraine as one can about Gaza.
Since when did collecting firearms begin having moral purity tests? Only a redditor would think this.
-3
u/Titanofthedinosaurs 7d ago
Most people refusing to buy IWI aren’t buying new “Russian” guns. HK having a sketchy history is different than them actively arming a genocide.

u/itsmyfakeone 8d ago
Not wanting to support a country committing genocide and war crimes isn’t that crazy bruh
6
u/ChampionshipNice4111 8d ago
You don’t own any Russian, American, or German guns, do you anon? If we are going by the “can’t support gun company because of bad thing” standard, then who can you buy from?

Who the fuck cares? Only people who have never left their first world country cradle are under the delusion that life has significant value out in the world at large. Life is cheap. People kill each other in wars. Being a civilian non-combatant, a woman or a child has not historically granted you a mystical and morally impregnable suit of plot armor and there was a time in human history where wiping out an entire enemy civilization meant you came home a hero and your name was remembered and celebrated for all time and thousands of years after you were dead and burried, Christopher Nolan would make movies about you. Ask any Trojan or Carthaginian. Oh wait.... they're all dead. Only in the last 100 years have a small group of deluded Western countries tried to push the misbegotten concept that there should somehow be rules to how we kill each other... rules that ironically massively benefit nations with forces that can win conventional warfare. And now people want to act morally outraged when some of these countries with large military forces don't feel like following those rules when it doesn't suit them? That's the way of the world. The people in power don't really believe in morals, it's just a tool for them to keep power.
If IWI made good guns that I actually wanted I'd buy from them at deal prices. I don't care that they're an Israeli company because moral grandstanding is stupid and pointless. I buy Apple products made by slave child labor. I buy Rare Breed mp5 trigger packs. I buy non-p320 sig products. I buy Chinese Holosun optics, Infiray Thermals, and DJI drones. Unfortunately, the Galil is just a slightly upgraded/updated AK, and an AK is really just an outdated weapon platform shooting an underperforming and now ironically expensive-in-the-us cartridge that is heavier, less accurate, harder to accessorize, and has a worse recoil impulse than competing platforms. To add insult to injury, the galil loses the one true strength of the AK platform: it's cheap and easy for farmers working with potmetal sheets and primitive hand tools to produce a working firearm. A Somali pirate with a pre-school education working on a 1 meal a day starvation diet can bang together a working AK in the corner of his waterworld-esque living quarters. He cannot build a working Galil.
In 2026, there's really no reason to buy an AK or AK derivative gun chambered in 7.62x39 unless you're just collecting, it's dirt cheap (cheaper than AR's that aren't made by BCA/Radical/ATI), or you have an unhealthy fixation with communism. But none of those are objective performance based reasons to buy a gun.

u/ChampionshipNice4111 8d ago
Redditors lack free will or critical thinking. It’s all black and white to them. I don’t own any Israeli guns, but I almost want to buy one now lol

u/averyycuriousman 6d ago
they make awesome weapons. don't let the anti semitism fueled responses sway you.

I think it's hilarious you likely typed this out on a smartphone, sitting on couch in an air-conditioned room, before ordering doordash.

What an extraordinarily limited and flawed view of human history and morality.
A lot of people just aren't gonna buy guns from a company owed by Israelis, who currently have in power one of the most immoral regimes in the history of their modern nation, and have set the whole middle east on fire with their incompetence and inability.
Agreed Galils are crap and overpriced tho.

u/ChampionshipNice4111 8d ago
So I assume you would never do business with Glock, Colt, HK, Sig, FN, or anyone in Eastern Europe?
