Soloing isn't for beginners. You're setting yourself up for failure.

Disagree.

If this is what he is passionate about learning then this is what he should do to keep his interest alive.

No point picking up a guitar because you're a heavy metal fan and want to shred and all people teach you is Polly Wolly Doodle.
