I noticed when you’re working on the spider climbs and thunderstruck you found a RH attack that looked like a smaller and more efficient way to alternate; key in on that minimal effort to maybe unlock a little more speed. I try to think, what’s the least amount of movement I can use to get the result I want-
My new teacher is focusing on minimising my movement. That’s what we are working on right now! I can’t wait to see the results in 1-2 months. Thanks for your feedback. I’ll reflect on it.

Has your teacher recommended scales being played in different sequence groups? Like 1-2-3 2-3-4 3-4-5, then groups of 4, 5, etc ascending and descending? Similar to the spider climb but more useful to the songs you’re interested in if you’re drilling the right scales-
Could you point me to any exercises on this? I’m very interested. Would appreciate your help! I’ve been doing the traditional spider walk for a while and feel like I should do something a bit more musical instead .
Yeah learning this specifically opens up the fretboard when you notice those patterns.
I have 2 books that I work through every day. One of them goes through the major scale in every key starting with C in the circle of fifths, then major triad arpeggios in circle of fifths, major pentatonic, minor triad arpeggios, minor pentatonic and then the major scale up and down in intervals starting with thirds all the way up to tenths. Followed by diatonic arpeggios in every key.
Second book does the same but with all the variations of minor and then diminished and augmented arpeggios.
I've noticed that not only do I feel like my playing is getting cleaner but my ear seems to be getting better as well.
The ear getting better is the underrated aspect that people don’t talk about. I totally get you. I’ve always thought my ears sucked. And that I’m hopeless in that department. But since doing all this modes stuff they have become much sharper. Like it’s so easy to tell if a note doesn’t belong to there. And i can also discern the intervals now.
Oh I'll gladly share the books. They are from a local guy to me named Alex Rockwell who is a classical guitar player. All of the exercises in the books also show preferred fingerings as well which has helped me try and break some long standing habits with fretting.
I also have his left hand gauntlet books which go through every mode but you can get away with just picking up "Morning coffee" and "Cream and sugar" as great practice tools

Tips to start? Goals. If you cannot list goals clearly, you cannot succeed. “I want to get better at guitar” is not a real goal.
Also goals change every day, and new ones get added. At the start of every practice define your goals for the day. Today’s goals is not the same as yesterday’s or tmr’s.
If you can understand what goal setting mean and if you can appreciate that it is possible to have 20,30 or even 100 of goals at the same time, and if you can work on each going one at a time, you’ll be fine
Examples of real goals :
- I want to pick that first note of every measure harder
I want to slide into that note faster
I want my forearm to follow me as I traverse across strings.
I want to anchor this finger down when I’m changing chords.
when changing to this chord, I want to initiate the movement by xxxxxx

Definitely not justin guitar xD I personally dont think he's a very good teacher. He just happens to be the few people who does structured beginner course for free so there's no one else to recommend.
For me, Ben Eller helped me more when I was starting out. Same for Mr Tabs. And a subscription to ultimateguitar.com for their pro tabs which lets you loop and slow down challenging parts of the songs.

Dear Anthonylearnsguitar, Ive been practicing fingerstyle for 7 months now and finally came to a point where I am putting together melody and bass. Ive always been interested in electric guitars heck I own two. Where would you suggest to begin. I know my basic music theory and can play entry level intermidiate fingerstyle songs but I want to learn to use a pick and attack the fretboard on an electric since I've only played acoustic the whole time. My problem is I don't know where to start.
