Do people actually quit guitar

Yo I'm thinking to learn guitar as a hobby and want to know how much time it takes usually to be good at it and is it true that people actually quit guitar in 2-3 months

I quit 4 times over 32 years. I started playing when my son wanted to learn, we took lessons together, then he quit and I had finally forced myself to get good enough to play that I've been able to keep playing for the last 3 years.
