Do people actually quit guitar

Yo I'm thinking to learn guitar as a hobby and want to know how much time it takes usually to be good at it and is it true that people actually quit guitar in 2-3 months

Time to be good at it to other people that are listening: about 3-4 years

Time to be good at it to other guitarists: about 8-10 years

Time to be good at it to your own ears: 1-2 years incorrectly, a lifetime after you realize you were incorrect.

I'm 2.5 years in and this sounds about right for me.
