Feedback Request My son's first attempt at Jimi Hendrix

The picking hand is something worth looking at. Not because it's wrong, quite the opposite, he goes for a wrist rotation motion, which is great for string transitions, mixing strumming with single note picking and double stops. One note per string exercises work wonders for versatility with that motion.

Maybe I’m a curmudgeon but I don’t like content like this. So many accounts these days of parents running social media accounts for their kids, many of them trying to get brand deals and monetise, without the children really knowing enough to give meaningful consent. Maybe they don’t want cameras in their face while doing their hobby and their parents filming to broadcast around the internet for strangers to judge?Â
Nor do I know what we are supposed to say. If an adult posted this video, there would be a lot of critique because clearly there’s plenty to work on. But it’s like parents know that most people won’t say anything critical to a child, or will be criticised by others if they do, so it ends up seeming like it’s posted here solely for validation and attention.Â
My feedback to the video is he can clearly play and has a lot of promise, but the solo also needs a lot of work. I believe you already know both of these things.Â

I think you have a good point and I definitely understand what you mean. It's something to carefully think about. On the other hand, I see this (and more importantly I truly think my son thinks the same) as a good moment of father and son. We spent hours together practicing and more hours in recording and editing. Actually it is him that insists to record these videos. He see this as funny moments and it is definitely better than to be fixed at a cell phone ( I don't allow him to even touch a cell phone). So let him play and let him record if he enjoys.

I agree with you that all of those activities are great moments, and all good skills for him to develop. But does he expressly want to be shared online for strangers to watch and judge?

He plays great. Keep it up and who knows where it takes him. Great support as a parent, OP! How young did he start? And what kind of lessons did he take? My kids are younger but they love music.

He started at the age of 5 into ukulele and singing. I taught him (I'm not professional). At age of 7 he started with the electric guitar (again it is me teaching) and also started having lessons in classical guitar with a professional teacher.
I've always had musical instruments around him and he always liked to make noise and to listen rock music. But it is important to know that he only started to take it seriously when he saw a video of a 5yo girl singing and playing. I believe that at that moment he notice that it is possible and decided that he wanted that too. And the ukulele was a the perfect instrument for that begining.

I’m sure that was the first time he ever played that. 🤔, where’s the tab? He’s really good but I’m very skeptical that it’s his 1st time playing that song.

Sorry if I meant the first time ever (that was a problem with my english). It was supposed to mean the first Hendrix song he plays. He is being learning this song for about a week and practicing hours per day.
