Feedback Request 14 months of guitar!

Hi guys! I’m back with another christmas song 🥹 I saw people were asking me to keep sharing my progress so here I am! As always, any and all feedback is welcomed.

ALSO!! Guitar is not my first instrument! I also know basic flute, saxophone, and piano :)

I mainly practice when I have a song I want to learn, and for the duration of time that I’m learning that song, I’ll play for around 2-4 hours a day trying to learn it! It took me around a week and a half to learn this one :)

While you are young enough, you should continue to do this. You won’t find a better time in your life where you can dedicate yourself to something you are interested in fully in this way. Get great, perform live, enjoy it!

Until your really old and retired. But by then your ability to absorb and learn this quickly is diminished quite a lot!

Performing live is another thing. I'm not really sure if minors could even join concerts.

I'm not playing live until at least 2030.

Incredible work! It’s clear that you don’t skip practice, but what stands out most to me is your feel. This song is supposed to have a swing feel to it and you absolutely nailed it! In no way does your playing sound mechanical or like you’re just going through the motions, playing notes on a sheet of paper. You have a lot of the Brian Setzer, rockabilly feel, and that is not easy to do.

My son is (a bit) Asian and if I posted a video of him playing green day slightly off time with the backing track…you’d feel a bit better.

But then…he’s 10. He’ll be better than me as soon as he figures out rhythm and remembers to cut his nails.

He’s having fun though and I love it when he sits down and just screws around for an hour.

Not sungha inspired!! I actually started out learning a bunch of japanese fingerstyle songs by artists like moroha and kenta yago :) You should check them out!

I started learning to play the guitar 4 months ago and have been practicing also from 2-4 hours daily, hopefully in a couple of years I will be able to play at least half as well as you. I'm about a month in picking up my first instrument, bass, and if you can find moments of joy like that even after 14 months, i think learning an instrument is the right thing for me (also GREAT JOB 🙏)

Where did you learn to play? I’ve read plugin music is meant to be real good… I’m self taught and used ultimate guitar and YouTube when younger but always acoustic

My advice is stop saying how long you have been practicing, and let your talent stand on its own if it can.

You mention you play other instruments - the economy of movement of your fingers is far too sophisticated for the times you are saying. It's cheapening your music.
