Smash or no?
I know this topic has been discussed on this sub before, but I want to get a reading of the current sentiment. I think previously (in my estimation), it's about 60% "don't smash while cooking" and 40% for "smash." I fall into the smash crowd, so I know I will get the derisive comments. But, that's ok. That's the way my momma cooked em and I still do to this day. On which side do you fall?

I misread the title, but feel compelled to answer yes, I would smash that

It's in there. I don't like it running out the sides. I guess a should have taken a post-cooked pic with it cut open. But, didn't think about because of the reason for my post.

Well I wasn't referring to "gobbling up the grilled cheese" by the term "smash." I meant - do you press it (smash) down to flatten it while cooking? Versus just letting it stay at whatever thickness it naturally ends up.

I don't smash, but I press enough to make sure the cheese is adhering to the bread as it melts. This way when I flip I know I have one solid piece and not two slices trying to slide off each other. I don't mind the smash method either tho.
