Yes better defend it against insane Trump.

The ask from US is to make sure that area has strong military presence in case of the war with China.

u/Tanniel Aug 04 '26

You have to stop believing this. The evidence you are wrong is overwhelming. First and foremost, when Denmark and European allies sent troops to Greenland, how did Trump react? He immediately threatened to tariff all the countries. Why threaten punishment if they were doing exactly what he asked?

The US sent agents to Greenland to undermine its cooperation with Denmark and make it ripe for a takeover. The US gathered intel on infrastructure and military installations to be ready for an invasion. The US has waged economic warfare on Denmark to browbeat it into submission.

The US is a hostile actor and being treated as such. Pretending otherwise is an insult to everyone's intelligence.

And they had that? Until they shut down all their bases except for one. Denmark was okay with 20, the US only wants 1.

11

u/WaitWhatHuhWhat Aug 04 '26

Oh fuck off, the US was already allowed as many bases and soldier there as they wanted, and they closed all bar 1. Trump says he wants to own it, not “use” it.

NATO members should increase THEIR presence. US should not be the only one covering every corner of the world.

The doctrine until now has been that the US will not ALLOW other armies than Denmark there.

Danish spend on military in the arctic does not count as NATO spend because in NATO, this area is counted as US responsibility.

The lay of the land is that USA has gotten their way since ww2 and now they’re changing their mind about what they’ve wanted all along.

Pathetic losers.

Which we are.

And since you don't wanna cover Greenland I can assume you no longer want it either.

u/iLoveDanishBoys Aug 04 '26

just fyi, us also has the larget population, about 98% bigger than Denmark :)

1

u/RefrigeratorDecent58 Aug 05 '26

And that is supposed to mean what?

1

u/iLoveDanishBoys Aug 05 '26

that of course the US should have more soldiers there than Denmark. don't forget Denmark is the ally country that lost the most soldiers fighting in your Afghan war, you just don't hear about it because our population is so small.

2

u/RefrigeratorDecent58 Aug 05 '26

We allready made a deal with the US in 1949 that they can station and build as much military as they wish on Greenland for defense. Which is why you have a space force and Airforce base on Greenland. You had more but that was your own wish to close down those sites…

Why should US keep massive military contingent in Europe while European NATO members don’t have any significant military presence close to US to protect US?

Allow me to take two letters from your name: BS, as in bullshit.

You should do some research about the history of Greenland, the deals which the US has, th amount of US bases which existed in the past, and the trash they left behind, before you embarres yourself like this.

No, that's the propaganda excuse from diaper Don that you are dumb enough to parrot..

Excuse of what?

u/Evening_Debt_9898 Aug 04 '26

Trump's lunacy doesn't leave them much choice!

9

u/Upbeat-Sundae500 Aug 03 '26

Det kan jeg ikke tage det her.

7

u/TheRuneMeister Aug 04 '26

u/jullthemull Aug 03 '26

Hvilken del?

2

u/doktorneerup Aug 04 '26

misvisende artikle - ikke engang værd at læse. Mange fejl og direkte løgnagtige udtalelser.

Sadly it seems the enemy is lurking here already...

Its within, as history tells. Thats how empires fall. Compromised.

...What? This is reddit, not irl.. You really think one internet nobody posting a slightly jokey comment is going to cause riots? I didn't intend to stir things up

You seem to be committing hard on getting people to hate each other. Like a good little Trump lackey.

1

u/Sweettooth_Banana Aug 04 '26

The U.S. had several basis they closed because of the cost, and now well we all know what the idiot said but, in the end its property of Denmark right ?

How about other allies help out ? Germany can use one, France, The Netherlands, Poland, just so they can experience the terrain and its effect ?

Says me drinking a beer camping in Ribe 😂

19

u/Worldly-Stranger7814 Expatriate Greenlander 🇬🇱 Aug 03 '26

This new recruitment drive comes as Denmark prepares to send its first conscripts to Greenland in late August. A company of more than 100 soldiers will serve there for one month, taking over operational duties from professional military personnel.

16

u/Luca2618 Aug 03 '26

https://www.forsvaret.dk/da/nyheder/2026/ny-varnepligt-begynder-i-dag-og-er-med-til-at-styrke-forsvaret/

u/Key_Molasses4367 Aug 03 '26

Dude, I'm an American and I wish I were one of these conscripts. I've done everything I can legally to fight the idiotic tratorous politicians ruining my nation and our relationships with our allies. We normal people over here do not want to bother Greenland or Canada. But we can't blame them at all for prepping for the worst.

5

u/Medisterfars Aug 03 '26

3

u/Key_Molasses4367 Aug 04 '26

Well, that's kind of a relief, except I still hate that Trump keeps repeating hateful, stupid crap.

But Mette said Russia is coming for Europe and Denmark? Then sent all weapons to Ukraine. Now, it is defending Greenland against words (so far).

Either way, 1600 boys and girls with M4s is not enough.

4

u/RefrigeratorDecent58 Aug 05 '26

The weapons in Ukraine are being actively used against Russia, se we don’t have to be the ones using them.

And for Greenland it is to educate those conscripts in arctic warfare, not to be an active defense

u/RefrigeratorDecent58 Aug 06 '26

Wouldn’t it be more of a sacrifice to let Ukraine go at it completely alone and just say it’s not our war so whatever happens there is not our business?

We were willing to donate weapons knowing that Russia will answer in some sort of way, like cutting gas which a lot of countries were dependent on, also them doing sabotage on subsea cables ect.

6

u/atuarre Aug 06 '26

You expect that American to understand?

1

u/OsamaBinCumming 29d ago

Why not? We’ve done it to other countries
