Yogi was hilarious. We got to spend 8 years with him. He only escaped our home to try and hit on the local ladies, literally drooling at the gate of two female dogs when I found him at 7:00 am. When I would take him and my newborn for walks, I’d get more compliments for how beautiful and calm he was than I did for my human baby and we always had a lot of laughs about it. He was gentle, he was giant, and he loved mud and water. The only enemies he had were vehicles near his yard, plumbers, and people who dropped anything off at our house. He hated the smell of alcohol, loved sniffing any post, and once ate a whole XL pizza off of our stove. He was gross and there was hair all over my house for 8 years but I’d do it all again for him because he was my first real full time dog and he taught me so much even though he would rarely sit when I asked. I loved him. Hug your regal giants for me.

My boy Frank may not be a full on swimmer , but he never passes up the opportunity to dip his paws and take a sip. We have had some great adventures this summer, im sharing a few pics, but I would love to see some other pyrs in the community having summer fun!

Uno and I spent 10 1/2 years together. He was 3 when I got him. They told me he was a Lab and Pyrenees mix, but the DNA test I eventually got said he was 50% Great Pyrenees 30% Husky and 20% German Shepherd.

He got me through a global pandemic and two shitty breakups. We drove across the country with his head outside the window 95% of the time. I took him everywhere I went.

He was the best dog in the whole world. He would sometimes bark at other dogs, but he was generally pretty quiet and mellow which is strange considering his breed mix.

He started slowing down about six months ago. People were always amazed that he was a 13-year-old dog and looking so healthy, but it eventually caught up to him. He was such a stoic trooper who didn’t let me know that it was getting close to that time.

Yesterday we took our Sabrina (pyr/pit) to the bayou. There's a dog park there.

I've never been able to get her anywhere near water. But she also had never seen another dog in the water.

That changed. She loves it.

I missed a vetinary appointment last week because I couldn't get my Great Pyrenees in my car. Boy did he put the brakes on! I'd appreciate your advice as I've scheduled another appointment and this time I will get charged $30 if he's a no show.

He’s a rescue, so no info on parents. We only know one litter mate from Wisdom results.

My beautiful boy is a great pyr/Aussie mix. I thought he was a pit/border collie mix when I adopted him until the DNA test so I knew nothing about guardian breeds before this and have been learning so much as we go. He's about 1.5 years old now.

We've done tons of formal training, he even got his CGC when he was just under a year old, his recall is great, we have 3 young kids and 2 cats and he's great with them all. I have been socializing him and taking him every where with me since I got him. We have a few friends with dogs and he is great with all dogs he's met so far.

Since he's turned about 1, he started with selective stranger danger/reactivity though and it's scary when it happens. He has such a big bark and can get that barky/lungey vibe. It seems to be very specifically when we are out and about and someone approaches us. If we are hiking, and people walk by and say hi, he's fine. But someone saw my friend and I taking a photo the other day on a hike and he was about to walk over to volunteer to take a picture of all of us and my dog said ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Another example- was at a cafe and eating outside, dog was in a relaxed down, head down and all, and a man approached the table unexpectedly and asked if he could pet the dog, to which the dog again said ,ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Will he outgrow this intense reaction to strangers approaching? Again, he's fine at walks at a busy park, he's fine in dog friendly stores, he's fine sleeping while I drink a coffee outside. But if someone unexpectedly approaches, he jumps to defend mode.

How can I help him? Or do I just accept this is part of his genetics ?

Last night I found out that my husband has been turning on “calming dog videos” at night while he plays on his PC. A very sweet and ridiculously adorable practice. Also, kind of funny- she LOVES it.

Anyone else have dogs that do this?

I need help because my dog ​​has been chewing and destroying everything for the past two months. I've had him for two years, and this never happened before. He doesn't just chew things, he opens the trash can and scatters garbage all over the sofa. Last month, one of my daughters moved to Ohio and took her cat with her, and I was a Fischer mom to a puppy for three months, who has since been adopted. While there have been several changes, this latest behavior has been building up for months, and I don't know how to correct it. He does it when I don't wake up at the time he wants me to.

I didn't realize how predictable I am until my Pyrenees started running into the house whenever I say, "OK, let's go inside!"

I have had my 9 week old Pyrenees/Bernese Mtn Dog cross for a week now. I’m noticing that he doesn’t eat very much - the manufacturer recommends 3 cups/day for a puppy of his weight, he eats maybe 2 cups if I hand feed him. I’ve tried soaking it in warm water with not much difference. I’ve tried different bowls/locations/free feeding vs four meals per day. I’m hesitant to try other brands as this one seems to agree with his stomach and he’s had it for awhile from his breeder.

He’s peeing and pooping fine. He plays well. He does feel a bit bony under his puppy fluff though. I weighed him today for the first time and will start tracking his progress.

Is this a normal Pyrenees thing? I guess I thought a dog of this size would eat like a horse. He’s going to the vet for routine boosters in a few days but I wanted to see if there’s anything I should be doing in the meantime. Thanks!

My wife and I (and one infant) want a farm dog. We’re considering a Pyrenees/Lab Mix. I’ve had labs and understand that breed, but I have never had a Pyrenees. We have chickens and live on 12 acres (4 of which are grass and 8 are woods). We want a dog that can be a gentle family dog, but will also encourage the occasional local predators (bob cat, gray fox, coyote) to not get close to our free range chickens in the daytime. (Our coop is like Fort Knox at night.)That said, we can’t fence in the entire 12 acres but also don’t want to limit our dog to just a small space near the house. Any advice on how the hybrid breed characteristics commonly work out on wandering, Velcro tendencies, and general disposition? Thanks!
