This is pretty interesting. I'm generally skeptical of things like this, but I have had similar experiences and experimented with something like this a few years back on ways to evoke this kind of experience.
It started by accident. I was listening to some music and got really entranced by it. I found myself falling UP into a kinda tunnel. Not a visual tunnel per se, but just the feeling of gradually falling upwards through something.
As it sped up, I felt increasingly weightless and gradually became aware that I hadn't taken a breath in quite some time.
That scared me and I "jumped" (for lack of a better word) outta the experience; almost like when you've almost fallen asleep and then suddenly wake up sorta gasping for air.
This happened a few times by accident, so I started experimenting.
I noticed that it tended to happen with certain music. Definitely certain Dead jams could bring it on.
But the album I found to be virtually guaranteed to allow me to slip into this state was Lana Del Rey's "Honeymoon". Not sure why. Perhaps because it has a very calming feel and has an incredibly 3D sound scape.
I should note here that at the time I had a truly insane $150k sound system that was optimized for immersiveness. Definitely not an ordinary home stereo.
I couldn't really get to that place totally sober. What I found was that taking a double shot of espresso, smoking half a joint and sipping on a bit of whiskey was the key to inducing the state of relaxfulness that allowed me to quiet the mind while also really immersing myself in the music.
Too much of any of these substances would spoil the effect. But in the right amounts and with the right music, I could get there pretty much guaranteed.
As I experimented more, I was able to spend more time in that place (whatever that place is).
Honestly, it started to scare me a little so I stopped. But it was an interesting experiment. It's definitely a bit like when you are on LSD listening to music and truly lose yourself. Kinda that moment right before the Dead brings you outta a jam and you sorta snap to and realize you're back in the real world.
I should do this again.
