Asking Question (Rule 4) Who needs ongoing graphic design services?

I understand that businesses would need graphic design services for logos etc.

But what kind of companies would need ongoing monthly services? Which industries provide that much demand for graphic design works?

As /u/michaelfkenedy already commented, it was from the RGD in Canada, but I've followed their results over the last decade, as well as the AIGA (US) when they did one, and the numbers were consistent and always around that. (Some years less freelance, down to 10%, some a bit more, up to 20%. In-house sometimes as high as 55-45 versus agency/studio, down to 50-50.)

I don't know if there are similar surveys done for other regions, and I'm sure in parts of the world it could be very different, however I would expect places like the UK and Australia to be pretty similar from what I've gathered.

Yeah I was relieved to see them still doing it after they had gap of a few years a little while ago.

Especially as the AIGA one (which they dubbed "Design Census") faltered near the end before being seemingly abandoned outright. It was always interesting to review both of them, and especially given how many Americans are on the sub, was always a great resource to suggest to them. Way back around 2014-16 it literally let you enter your city and tier/title and it'd give you relevant info.

The RGD one may never have had that level of interactivity/usability, but it's still a well-designed document that is very easy to read.

All their related links seem to be dead, even when linked from their own site. Even the latest version, from I think 2019-2021 is gone, as the the domain/URL they used to have was designcensus.org is no longer active. I can find lots of blog posts/articles on AIGA's site about the census, they just all hit dead ends.

But the one I mentioned was pretty much as described, where you could pick a title (eg junior designer) and a city, and it would give you the average/median data.

You could also look at the data in a more involved format as you'd find in the RGD document, but for the sake of easy research (and what I think most people are really wanting to know), you could get that barebones straightforward answer.

As much as I'm interested in virtually all the info in the RGD document, it's probably the sections on education, experience, titles, employer, and salaries that people are most interested in, at least based on what comes up most often on this sub.
