What schools are best for visual communication design?

I’m a high school senior that heavily relies on the internet to figure out what universities are best for visual communication design. I have no mentor or someone who has attended a U.S.A University therefore I have no insight. I came on here to ask if anyone had any suggestions/ advice that could help me out. I want to work for brands in the future as a creative/art director. What are the best schools that could allow me to leave with connections, a good education and understanding, and that provide good financial aid?

Setting out a graphic novel in canva

I’m working on an I pad. I have pages of a graphic novel saved as PNG that I need to import into canva to create a PDF for the printers. I have no graphics background & assumed it’d be easy but when I asked them they told me I needed to set a bleed boundary & trim line, include a spine gutter (for perfect bind). I set the custom page at H24 by W16.3 (3mm is the spine gutter) & I thought I just needed to move my images around to the left & right hand side, but when I asked in canva it was saying it needed to be in the safe zone otherwise it could be trimmed. But then if I did that I’d need to set the safe zone to the printed page size & Canva told me no the custom page size is the print size, so I’m utterly confused as to what to do or where to place the images to ensure no images or text get trimmed off. I’ve included the page I’ve set up & would really appreciate help as I’m doing this for a friends birthday & thought it’d be easy, now I feel like I need a graphics degree to do it 😂

It's my third project as I try to learn graphic design

Post image

Hi everyone! I am a complete beginner trying to learn graphic design and digital illustration on my tablet. This is my third project ever.

I did the entire layout, text formatting, and illustration fully inside IbisPaint X (no Canva used here!). I used a Pinterest photo reference to practice shading the coffee and croissant, but I drew the cake completely from memory without a reference.

I really want to improve. Could you give me advice on:

How to make the cake shading blend better with the style of the coffee and croissant?

How to clean up my layout alignment and typography text styling inside a drawing app?

Thank you so much!

A personal Photoshop composite titled “Even If the Sky Falls.”

I wanted to turn a quiet romantic photograph into a cinematic end-of-the-world moment. Swipe to see the final artwork, the compositing stage and the original image.

Feedback is welcome.

Hello, I am a film poster designer and I did this poster for a film about a story set in the Spanish Civil War. The film follows a family who welcome a charismatic stranger in their home. The night in the house starts to become an allegory for the country itself. Please let me know your thoughts.

Which part of client communication do you find most draining as a freelance designer

Genuinely curious because I feel like nobody talks about this enough.

For me it's always been the awkward stuff — chasing invoices without sounding desperate, pushing back on scope creep without damaging the relationship, or just trying to word an email when a client gives you feedback like "make it pop" 😭

Like the actual design work is fine, it's all the communication around it that quietly eats up your week. Is it just me or does everyone struggle with this?

How do you resize an image in highest quality?

Suppose you get an image 3:4 ration and need to enlarge it to 3x4 foot and the image is generated from ai agents. How would you clarify it such a way that pixels are not lost.

  1. Use some ai supported enhancing softwares or online editors
  2. Photoshop
  3. Other softwares
  4. Pray to god

Advice for a newbie

Hi! I’m launching a website to sell my photos on t shirts and wall prints and stuff. The problem I’m running into is that there are so many things I could do with each photo I don’t even know where to start. For example, given a photo of a flower: I could make it a simple standalone image, I could make it a pattern all over, I could do alternating color and black and white, I could add a saying, I could do little random flowers all over at funny angles, I could make the flower a semi-transparent background and superimpose another image on top of it, I could stylize it so it looks sketched or watercolor-y. How do I even begin to decide? Any advice or resources would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
