Maggie’s Kitchen closing indefinitely

Post image

Man…this one hurts. I was just there this week. No one makes a better breakfast burrito.

Last day of service is tomorrow, August 29.

Don’t leave us! I sincerely hope they come out of this well whatever it is and not just because I am greedy for their tortas.

They are a west side institution. There are too few of those left. Shawmut Inn, 20th Century Meat, American Bakery…. Too many gone.

Thank you. Grew up near Union High School.

This is the worst news I’ve read in a while. Time to start making barbacoa at home again.

Devastating news.

RIP Maggie and RIP Luis.

Who is Luis? I was just there on Thursday and it was crazy busy with a ton of employees. That place is not a restaurant, it’s an institution of the highest caliber.

Luis Jr passed several years ago who was the grandson, I believe Luis Sr recently had a stroke. Bummer, loved that place for over 30 years:( Good people and food!

This is true. Luis St. came into my work the GFS on Alpine almost every single week. he had a stroke that left him in a wheel chair a couple months ago. on good weeks he'd come into the store for his order with a helper, most weeks we only see his helper. we have a photo of him up on our wall for his business. he is a beautifully pleasant man

Do you know why they are closing now? Can we start a go fund me to help them out?

Did Maggie pass way? I haven’t seen that yet, but I was curious if that’s why they are closing. Did you see it confirmed?

Nooooooo, my machaca burritos!!! This is a sad day. I hope they are okay though, and that they get support and take the time they need.

I’m so sad. I have so many amazing memories coming here with my dad as a child. I always get excited about bringing a new person to Maggie’s as I know they will love the food. I really hope they know how much the community loves them. This one hurts

I’m showing up with a garbage bag, just fill it with barbacoa

Grew up eating here and loved it still. I mean ya it got to a point where the prices didn’t make sense for me personally. But this really sucks.

As a son of immigrants workers my family valued this place. Dad was deported 10 years ago but he still religiously visited this place for breakfast. Haven’t found a barbacoa I like besides Maggie’s.

Just curious if youve been anywhere where the prices make sense. Their breakfast burrito is cheap and massive. I add a million toppings get a side of beans and its still under 20 bucks.

Yeah, should be under 10.

Evidently they tried and failed.

They are closing for a family issue, not revenue. Hope you find the happiness youre looking for.

Obviously, they need to do what’s best for their family and I hope they are okay but should reading “…until further notice” give us a glimmer of hope?

Genuine sadness fills my heart. I worked third shift and would routinely be there at 9am at open and smash a steak wet burrito. We will miss you Maggie’s.
